Camera in the locker room. Good or bad?

The NFL continues to look for ways to make the in-stadium experience more valuable for fans. The next wrinkle: Letting fans see inside the locker room.

SportsBusiness Journal reported Wednesday that next season, the NFL will mandate that teams install cameras in home locker rooms. Video content from the locker rooms then can be used on team apps, and during halftime and other breaks in the game at the stadium. It's important to note the use of locker-room footage is optional, even if the cameras are mandated.
"The content will be available only in-stadium, and the content will be available only of the home team," NFL Executive VP/Business Ventures Eric Grubman told SBJ on Wednesday. "You can show it or not show it."

The NFL Competition Committee debated this topic extensively, settling on the compromise that a team doesn't have to use the locker-room footage. (Frankly, I'm not sure I want to see a Bill Belichick pregame speech. Some things should be left to the imagination.)

I think its awesome for the fans, but how are they going to avoid gameplan changes from being revealed to the opposing team?

I agree for fans it could be good, I don't see any upside for the team. I think it opens them up to the media and any in fighting that may take place will be there for all to see. Playing ball for many years I always told what takes place behind closed doors stays behind closed doors. Now those doors will be open.

Waiting until someone walks by nude.

It was some years ago when they had a reporter in the dallas locker room during a live news broadcast and a player walked by naked...might have been Hambrick but can not remember for sure.

Bad idea. They need to find better ways to make the in stadium experience worth the PSL's, ticket costs and parking.

I remember Nate Newton after the Superbowl in 1996 was naked on camera

I don't even think they should allow reporters in the locker room. All interviews should be done in an area away from the locker room. I have no interest in seeing what happens in there.

I agree completely. I do rmember Peter King making the argument that the press should have access to what he termed as "our workplace".I've never bought into the idea that a change/shower room is anybody's legitimate "workplace", unless you're the locker room attendant or trainer. no cameras in my bathroom and the thought of seeing Nate Newton in the buff is a bell I can't unring.

Not just that players need time before facing the media, there are a lot of things done and said in a locker room that we will never hear between players or players and coaches. These incidents would be blow way out of proportion.

This. If they want to improve the fan experience, how about eliminating commercial breaks?

Or at least eliminate either the timeout before or after a kickoff.
