We all know there are defensive football plays and schemes, we have discussed defensive fronts, pass rushing and some of the more exotic blitz packages, such as the Zone Blitz and the 46 Defense. But this is only half of a pass play.
If getting to the passer is one way to stop passing offenses, then pass coverage is the other side of the coin. Defenders in pass coverage are those who choose not to rush the passer, but instead to defend against those players who might receive the ball from the quarterback.
This Dallas team on defense doesn't appear to be good in my opinion. Some of the starters are just plain immature and irresponsible off of the field. In a perfect world, we would cut bait and move on. But there are salary caps, time expended, and wishes of the owner, coaches and fans that keep some players in place.
So how do we camouflage our intent? Which players are best suited to be on the field regardless of down, distance and offensive personnel? THE CATCH...? YOU CAN'T USE ANY SUSPENDED or INJURED PLAYERS. Who do you think will line up week one and give us the best chance to win?
I guess I'm more interested in what scheme and line ups will create turnovers and mayhem for opposing offenses. Will a new "it" defense be created? Is it time to move on from what we are doing and get an infusion on new ideas?
Well what say you? I know there will be those that want to defend what we have going, that's good. There are some that want to move on, that's good too. Let's just debate the merits.
