I had to reload windows and all my software on my computer. Outlook Express is now opening my e-mail in very small windows. Where can I find the setting to make it open messages in full screen windows? I looked in "view/layout" and "tools/Options" and can't find the setting anywhere.

I finally gave up and downloaded Thunderbird which is opening my mail in larger windows.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

2.Why does Outlook Express always open such a small window?

Both Outlook Express and Internet Explorer remember the size of the last window used, but neither can remember a maximized window. If a window opens very small and you then maximize the window, Outlook Express and IE will remember the small size, not the maximized size. So instead of maximizing the window, just drag the corners of the window until it is large enough for you, then close the window. Outlook Express and IE will then remember that large, non-maximized size. Note that this problem does not occur on WindowsXP; it does remember maximized windows.

If that doesn't work, hold SHIFT while you close the window and it will remember the position/size for sure.

BTW - just my opinion but Outlook Express is garbage, I'd keep using Thunderbird if I were you.

You can uninstall Outlook Express (kind of) thru start -> run -> appwiz.cpl -> Windows Components -> uncheck Outlook Express.

Thanks, Kilyin. I think I am going to continue using Thunderbird but I was just curious as to how to get it done in Outlook.

By the way, I am running XP but it didn't remember the maximized size. Thank you for the information!

Yeah, I just copied and pasted that... I believe that last bit about XP is inaccurate.

I am pretty sure that if you hold shift and close the window after sizing it to your liking it should remember the position/size.... that goes for any application/window too.

It's a moot point now anyway. I set Thunderbird to be the default mail client and now even when I click on Outlook, Thunderbird opens. I could change the default but I'm okay with just using Thunderbird.

The information is valuable though because we also have a laptop running Outlook that is doing the same thing. I now know how to fix it thanks to you.

You could hold the ctrl key down after opening the program and right vlick on the toolbar and select cascade that generally fixes those type issues

Thanks. That may come in handy in the future.

Don't need to hold CTRL, the cascade option is always available when you right click on the toolbar. I don't like to use it though, I have my own sizing scheme for my windows and that would drive me insane.
