Can Brian Schottenheimer be more than Jason Garrett 2.0

Former Cowboys HCs haven’t fared that well this century. It will be interesting to see if Big Mac ever gets another HC job. Of all the former DC HCs in the last 26 years, only the snoozer Chan Gailey ever got another NFL HC job and it was a brief stint in Buffalo.

Campo and Garrett never got another HC job in NFL or college. Parcells retired for good. Wade was a successful DC in Denver, winning a SB ring there, then was a HC in the XFL/USFL.Now McCarthy? We will see.
Yep it’s a question as to whether MM ever coaches again, but interesting that he chose that uncertain path over returning the the Jerry nonsense and undermining.

No HC can succeed here as long as Jerry wants to play defacto head coach.

I THINK I'M JUST TIRED OF HEARING about CULTURE!!! Just play football, what are we going to have a bunch of nice guys that love football but have no heart?? All this getting to know the players and stuff like that is fine and nice, but let's bring some toughness, let's actually be ready for the playoffs!!!
I have been watching Brian Schottenheimer's press conferences. The guy seems smart as a tack ,he talks about how his practices are being scripted he seems to have a firm grasp on what he wants to do.He just looks like he can communicate with his players better than McCarthy ever did.I have heard that McCarthy's practices were lacking I don't know if that is true or not,but Schottenheimer sounds good what I am hearing from him,but that is just me. I am optimistic ,the roster looks better in the depth department and I think Schottenheimer may be able to get more out of his players.

I just dont see it with him. He basically sucked at every position he was in his coaching career. He led one of the worst Offenses in football last season. Seems like a typical Jerry "Yes-Man" type of hire. I get serious Jason Garrett 2.0. vibes with him.

If the Cowboys would have been serious about changing culture and winning they would have not made the lazy pick again. Ben Johnson would have been my favourite this offseason.
Wow I thought we got all this out of our systems after he got hired and now here we go with a new one popping up first of all he hasn't sucked everywhere he's went I'm pretty sure he was the offensive coordinator in Seattle when they won a Super Bowl and by the way those three seasons from memory because I don't want to drudge this all back up ezekiel Russell Wilson had strung 3 of his best seasons together as a pro, Ironically after Ryan Schattenheimer left russell Wilson kind of fell off a cliff what happened i'm not saying it was or wasn't because of him but you're saying he sucked everywhere he went where are you getting your information from because when Jerry called around nothing but glowing recommendations from people he's worked under and over and width including our own locker room..

So and by the way our offense did kind of suck but that was because Mike Mccarthy was the offensive coordinator and the head coach had nothing to do with Brian Schottenheimer doing as he's told by his boss.

Now let's look at the big picture this is how it really works it's not just about the head coach he literally needs to be a leader a delegator and what does he need to do number one his job is to put together a great staff and in my opinion this is one of the best staffs I've seen in a decade around here and maybe I'm just blowing smoke here maybe I'm just exaggerating maybe I'm a homer but to me from top to bottom every positional coach I think is better they all seem to have aggressive personalities they want to be physical they want to be hands-on teachers they seem to really be locked in on that type of staff and how they're going to be getting that message across to the players...

SO, be negative and be way late because I still don't know where this came from because he's already been around a couple months we're already passed that now we're already passed a draft we're building towards training camp in preseason now and you bring this up again...

Well whether that's true or not that's really not the bigger picture for me it is two things hiring a great staff because as a leader he doesn't have to be great at football or numbers he needs to be a great leader he needs to be able to delegate and pass on his vision and what his expectations are going to be that way the rest of his assistance can pass that on because they're the ones that are going to be hands on with most of these players..

And from where I stand this is one of the best assistant coaches assembled all at once going into year one for a new head coach here in Dallas I love this staff all of them the white receiver coach the offensive defensive line coaches the running back coast all of them together to me are different.

So as a complete staff his first job was to get a staff assemble that I think he got an A plus for that... And now he's in Jerry's ear and he's asking for the things he needs he may not get everything but I believe he's a different voice and a different vision and I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt but to me all he needs to be is appreciated and respected by his players and his staff he doesn't need to be great at all those other things he need to learn how to delegate...

And so far I like what I've seen it's still incomplete in TBD but I can't believe we got another new post all these months later after he was hired and now somebody had to come on here and bash him like they just got back in from space and they've been up there in a shuttle and act like this is new news. :welcome: :muttley: :oldcouple:.

Where he will be tested is handling play calling duties and being the HC at the same time. All new to him. If he was just a walk around HC everyone would be less critical. If the offense can’t function however the fans will turn quickly
I think this man's been waiting for this opportunity for so long he probably had a big old scrapbook and some notebooks full of what he would do if he became a head coach I mean look at who his father was people act like he wasn't on the Seattle team that won a Super Bowl that their offenses were really good not all to his credit etcetera we all know that it's a team game even from the coaching staffs but he assembled a great staff and I believe he'll be able to delegate whatever is necessary to his actual offensive coordinator to make sure he's not spread thin and his job is to basically on game day to call the plays but he'll make sure he delegates all the responsibilities and what they're doing for the week that needs to be installed for the upcoming game but once they get to the game he'll have a sheet and he'll be able to call plays he's not the only one I get it he's new at it but he comes from good stock with his father he's been on a lot of teams and I'm sure he picked up something from everyone he's worked with including his last stop with Seattle...

I understand your point i'm not even saying it's going too workout, but I like what he's saying, I like the way he's carrying himself, and I especially like the staff that he assembled so far... He seems well respected from all his EX- peers both his bosses the people he's worked around and with and players he's been around and especially in her own locker room giving him glowing and recommendations especially when the quarterback is fully on board with this...

I would be more worried if we just brought over Brian Schottenheimer from another team and this is the first time he's been in our locker room and around these players it would be a little more concerning for sure but he seems well respected around the star and that's a good start. He brought over coaches that I don't think anybody expected that he was going to seek out find and get them to come....

McCarthy was given no talent last year. He had to play his last 2 seasons without a real weapon other than CD.

We’ll see if Schotty gets a real #2 WR or he may meet the same fate. I love his approach to the OL. Bringing in the best of NFL and CFB.

Don’t love Eberflus. I would’ve preferred a more attacking DC

He ran off DQ and KMoore.

Didn’t want a RB and ran a Basic offense.
