If Collins can be better than Leary was in 2014, this offensive line is going to roll, with the only possible downside being Doug Free who probably won't be better than he was in 2014.

2014 was Leary's 3rd year in the league, but he didn't start a single game in his rookie year, I'm not even sure if he played a single snap in 2012.

So the question becomes does Leary's 3 offseasons coming into the league as someone who was thought of as a 3rd round pick minus the knee condition and extremely nfl ready trump La'el collins who many had in the top 10 or 15 of the draft minus the legal questions.

I have a lot of confidence in Collins and I'm hearing good things from his teammates about his evolution. I think he could even be better than Zack Martin, which is saying a lot.

I think the combo with him and Smith could be the envy of the entire NFL.

Can he? Well, yes, obviously, he can. He's much more talented.

Will he? I'd hope so. I'd think so.

our tackle situation could be a major problem. Free is by far the weak link in that OL and the backup tackle situation is perilous,,, unless Gibson (?) or Green shows something this preseason the Cowboys ought to be looking for vet depth. They don't want to start shuffling that line and moving guards to tackle, etc. but if Free goes down we might see the reason Dallas keeps Leary on the roster,,,, so that they can kick Martin out to tackle.

Gibson isn't on our team.

I'm pretty confident in the backup tackle spot. I'm not worried at all about it actually. Probably more worried about backup guard/center depending on what happens with Leary.

Confident? more like hopeful, Green has never played a freaking down in the league. How could you be confident? and if Tyron goes down?

I'm in complete agreement. I think Collins has the potential to be even better than Martin. Not saying he will be, only that he has the physical attributes to be.

I feel that the only component that has to come together is the mental aspect. If he gets that part down, he can be as good as any lineman in the entire league.

Chaz Green, who is in a battle for the swing offensive tackle spot, took snaps at left and right tackle and at guard as well. Where Green looked his best was on the left side as opposed to the right. His footwork and timing was better, and he just appeared more comfortable. This is his job to take over Charles Brown, who has had his share of struggles.

•Keep an eye on rookie offensive tackle Ryan Mack out of Memphis. He had a bad snap where he jumped offsides, but overall he has been solid. His technique and finish have been impressive in the two practices that I have had a chance to see. He is going to get plenty of work at training camp and these preseason games to develop. Mack has been lining up on the right side, but his movement skills could allow him to see some action on the other side.

I liked the Ryan signing as an UDFA. I would bet if we had a 7th round draft pick he may have been considered. Either Mack or Brown.

Pretty high pick, sounds like he looks good out there in OTAs. If a first rounder is expected to start as a rookie, I think we can expect a 3rd rounder to be a solid backup in his second year, injury or no injury.

I would be disappointed if Collins was not better than Leary in 2014. Leary had some really good performances, but he also had some bad ones. He's a solid starting guard, but he does have some limitations, where as I think Collins has all-pro potential. I doubt he makes one here considering writers won't put 4 out of 5 of our linemen on an all-pro team, but I think he can be almost as good as Martin.

If Tyron goes down, I'd be almost certain that either Martin or Collins will move to tackle. That's why Leary is so valuable. He's going to fill in at G if anybody, regardless of position, goes down for significant time.

It would be very impressive if Gibson shows us something. Especially since he's in camp with the Falcons.

This is just a question, but is the OL coach good enough to get the best out of this line? Say what you want but Callahan is an awfully good coach. I want to make sure they don't rely solely on talent...

Leary is really good as a run blocker, but he has some trouble with quick-moving DLs in pass blocking. I'm not sure Collins is quite as powerful as Leary (at least he wasn't as a rookie), but he has more than enough power to be potent and the movement skills to handle those quick DLs.

Considering that he got the OL to adjust to more man blocking because of McFadden's inability to run consistently behind the zone blocking, I feel better about the OL coaching than I did when Callahan left.

I would say yes. The RT spot, IMO is the position that could be our sore spot.
