At point in his contract can Dallas cut him and not take a big hit on the cap? He had another disappointing season, I get he is a good run stuffer but Dallas didn't pay him big money for that, he'll be 30 soon, he seems to always be dealing with some type of injury and I doubt it gets better. Dallas has signed some horrible contacts over these past few years

I get the vibe from him that he may not be the best influence in the locker room. Part of the problem.

If that is the case, he has to go.

So the quick answer is yes, the Cowboys can save considerable money by cutting him, around 19 million I believe as a post June 1st cut. The option of restructuring him is also on the table though which lowers the cap hit, keeps DLaw, but pushes some money into future years as well. Question just becomes can you cut him and for $19MM resign Gregory and replace DLaw? Or does it make more sense to restructure him for a smaller savings and use that money to keep or replace Gregory. I can see the argument from either side. My guess is the Cowboys look to restructure though.

For clarity, yes you can cut him and save $19MM in 2022. However, you will have $8MM dead cap in 2022 and $11MM in 2023.

I think both sides will agree on a restructure.

Who knows though....he may not want to play in a fourth system in four years....

And if he wants to sniff anything close to a ring it ain't happening here.

DLaw is still a good player but he’s only had 14.5 sacks the past three seasons since he signed his contract extension. They paid him that money to get sacks. He’s had injury issues and has missed a number of games. At some point he’s going to end up like DWare having to take a pay cut or be cut.

The window is closed. The sooner we clear cap space the better. Law, Zeke, Cooper, and eventually Dak all need to walk in the next 3 years.

We aren’t winning with them or McCarthy. If the SF game did not convince you this core is rotten from within— nothing will.

I would start by cutting Zeke and Cooper next year. D Law can stay through 2022 IMO. But we need new blood and new thinking on offense.

you save exactly $0 cap cutting Zeke & would have $29MM dead cap.

You sure that's what you want to do?

Really? I thought I saw somewhere that after this season we had an “escape hatch” in his contract. Maybe it was Cooper’s.

Anyway— no if that is the case as listed above— we are stuck with him lol

2023 we can get out

After this next year we do - you'd save about $5 million

Restructure would save about $9 million this year, but kicks the cap hit can down the road.

Personally, I thought Zeke looked great at the start of the season. The knee issue really slowed him down and he became a negative to the offense. IF and thats a big IF, the early season Zeke can play like that all year - I'd think about the restructure and try and get another 2 years out of him.

We like our guys....

If Gregory is really going to require $15-$20m a season, let him walk without any consideration. He is not that type of pass rusher! I’d be down for like a 4yr/ $40m type of deal!
