If you're saying the backs the Cowboys currently have are way more talented than the backups the Cowboys had in 92 then I agree. Because of Emmitt's durability and being able to carry the load the Cowboys weren't dependent on having a solid backup. I believe in the OL but if injuries occur upfront especially a rash of them we're going to be more dependent on the talent we have at RB. What the current group has to prove is they can be consistent and that one of them can be relied on to move the chains in tough yardage situations.
I think that if we sustained injuries to the entire unit, such that we were down multiple starters for the entire season, then you are right but if that happened, it wouldn't matter what kind of back we had because in all likelihood, Tony would be on the shelf before too long as well. That's football. If you have too many injuries at key positions, then it's probably your season. I also agree that they have to prove they can do it. At this point, there is no reason to come out and say, we are good and everything is golden. I would never do that but the reverse is also true. I'm not ready to say that we are doomed because we have backs that haven't proven they can do it yet. Either could be true but I have faith in the coaching staff and the talent evaluation process we currently have. Now if this were 5 years ago, I might have a ticket for the Titanic in my wallet. I just think things have improved in those areas. I am optimistic.
