Watch the second video again and look at all four of our linemen. I think Hayden is probably a little bit better than what we normally give him credit for, but I think that clip kinda typifies why Thornton will be a big upgrade. And it's kinda funny to watch.

To the original question - I do not believe that DLaw is the kind of hall of fame talent that can single handily take over a game like Ware or LT or Von Miller, but there are only a few of those kind of guys out there and I do believe we can win with him as the best rusher on a D-line with guys that are close to his level. Crawford, when healthy, is a guy that fits that bill, I think Thornton will help with a push in the middle. Gregory has the talent to help quite a bit, if he gets his head straight. Irving and Mayowa are candidates to help. There are several guys in this draft that could help. Think about this - in '14 we were a blown call away from playing in the NFC championship game against a team we had already beaten and Mincey was our best pass rusher! DLaw is a definite upgrade over Mincey.

Difficult to have much confidence in his ability to be available on gameday. After all the talk surrounding the combine/draft and subsequent fall in the draft, he confirmed everything by failing 3 (?) tests in basically 6 months. I'm hoping for the best but he's only 1 failed test from a full season suspension.

3? WOW

I hope this is the last boom or bust guy we spend a premium selection on.

He had more talent than any DE coming out in this year's draft but fans are expecting Bosa to step in and be an impact starter.

Don't know if I agree with that entirely. Yes, he's got the natural bend around the corner for a pass rusher but he also lack counter moves and strength. Sure, he may develop those later but nothing is for certain. Bosa is getting lot of hate these days. But he is far more complete DE that's NFL ready than Gregory was last year. Playing DE is more than JUST pass rushing. Until you figure out how to defend the run NFL OC will RUN right through you until you are whipped. Michael Strahan, Jared Allen weren't exactly corner benders either.

On the right side of Marinelli's defense there is a lot less run responsibilities. They are mainly responsible for outside contain.
