Did you see this clip....it makes me sad and worried

I remember that play when it happened. I rewatch it and try to see what Jaylon could have possibly seen that made him run there. I’m sure field level looks different because the view we are seeing is so bizarre that I can’t imagine any other player on our team regardless of position running where he ran.

He can't be given a starting role of any type until his drop foot condition is gone. He has to take double the steps a healthy player does which is killing his confidence. I'm faster going diagonally than he is.

Once his drop foot is close to 100% and he doesn't need the brace, then lets see what he can do. At this point your killing his confidence and the confidence of his teammates (I'm sure guys like Scandrick, Crawford, Lee, Hitchens, etc aren't thrilled with being exposed when he's in)
Spot on here Canada.

That brace he wears must severely limit his mobility. It is clearly and painfully evident. Why else would he run/lope like that?

Now the waiting game starts again this off-season. Will his nerve get to firing on all cylinders?

It’s got to be a combination of hitch Durant and Wilson until lee gets back.
Maybe mix a little smith in strictly to rush the passer as others have mentioned

At this point from what we've seen my expectations are about as low as you can get, and we'll need linebacker help in the upcoming draft regardless of what he does. Anything he does is a bonus, similar to Randy Gregory. He's soo bad, both on the physical and mental side. Suffice to say I won't be following along with his status updates this off season as much as I was this past one.

Being honest here, if Smith can't figure out how to get stronger laterally, be able to change direction fluidly in coverage and just plain get stronger in order to stack, I don't think he can play regularly at any LB position. As long as he is on the field and as long as he is unable to do those things I mention, OCs are going to find him and expose him.

It’s the right opinion.

Make him a pass rusher, he seems to have the first step for it.

He ran right to where Hitchens was, and got in his way. There were a few plays like this which made me think he's taking himself out of the play so he doesn't have to tackle head on because he simply can't plant with power on that foot to counter whats coming the other way. He hasn't made a single solo tackle that I remember this season where he's tackled a RB coming his way head on, so I'm guessing he's avoiding that angle (he made a couple nice tackles going sideways, and the sack, but those are much easier to do than someone barreling north-south), but which wreaks of cowardice to me. Either do your job or take yourself out.

Sure did. It really does make you sad. I feel awful for the guy and hate to criticize someone who's been through such a traumatic injury but it's killing the team. It's sad and frustrating all at once.

What do you think of Jaylon so far?

As bad as some are saying?

No instincts? Hesitating due to injury?

Genuinely curious.
Smith needs more time, like at the end of next season, to get a fair assessment. This season shouldn't count against him. Not saying he will be a top player but its too early to condemn him also.

Yep.

Some people bash Dez. Some bash Dak. I bash these clowns during draft day and making these kinds of selections. Count me as being tweaked at this FO for their continued arrogance and cocksure attitude in regards to the draft and taking physically damages goods like Smith. And mentally damaged goods like Gregory.

The Dallas Cowboys always appear to be one step forward and two steps back. At least under this regime. Not sure when and if it will ever change.

:clap::clap::clap:

I have to agree...I'm not expecting much from him. We need to draft/ sign 2 linebackers next year
Yeah, sadly he has lost a lot of time. LB must be addressed in the next draft. Lee is not getting any younger or healthier. I like what I have been seeing from Hitchens...but more talent is needed.

I said the same....tell the coaches you are physically unable to perform and stop lieing to everyone.
Just man up and tell everyone to IR you.

mr xwalker-- In your expert opinion do you think Jaylon Smith will physically recover and maybe mentally too at that point and truly become

what the team was hoping for....once in a generation linebacker?
No, I don't see him being an elite LB.

Can he be "good enough"? Maybe but I'm not certain. His mental struggles have been the biggest surprise.
