Can Jerry Really Be Blamed For The DL Fiasco Last Year?

I think we are a lot closer to the same page than our posts make us out to be. Last years injuries are unheard of, and really cannot completely be planned for. I just think more could be done. As you have said, the position has been neglected in the draft.

Your right we are closer in our views. I think specifically DT has not been addressed in a while. I also think priority was given to players with in the 3-4 as opposed to the 4-3. Even Dungy comment the other day of the change taking time in getting the right people to play within it.

I don't know about the lord himself, but quite a few people wanted to add DL depth, so obviously other people saw the potential for disaster.

It's hard to make the "we had so many other needs" argument work for not taking a DL when we you take a TE and WR in the first three rounds.

I kind of glad we took Williams or we would be looking at Dez, Cole and Harris at this point. TE not so much.

I think we are going to look back fondly on that Ratliff extension because it might just have been the proverbial straw.

That contract might finally have been the 'we can't do this type of thing anymore', reality wake up call.

Let's hope.

The fiasco could have been prevented through careful preparation, forward thinking planning and smart drafting the years prior.

Yes. I can blame them. Completely. It was an old group with no quality depth whatsoever to take over when they decline.

Anyone who didn't know Ratliff couldn't play anymore is a victim of their own ignorance. Ware was breaking down. Spencer had a serious injury. To look at that group and think everything will be fine, it's even a real strength of the team, was completely idiotic. At best it was an aging starting lineup with zero depth.

Crawford was a third round pick. I am curious what you qualify as 'quality depth.' Ben Bass was penciled in as the 3rd tackle, they had him for a couple of years and he was playing well in training camp before he hurt his shoulder.

Your tripe about Ratliff is more binary thinking on your part. Ratliff used to play like Geno Atkins back in 2008. Everyone gets that he wasn't going play like that anymore. The thing is there is more than just best in the league and worst in the league. Even competent NT play that could hold up against a double team much less actually force one would have been a huge boon for us. He had a sports hernia and not a severed head.

Yep. Without a doubt IMO but no need to take my opinion on it. Jerry said so himself.

I guess Denver is judging Ware differently, they just paid him a boat load of money. I doubt they did that because they feel he is washed up.

He was not worth the money when he was in Dallas. That is all that matters. Other than that, Denver could be wrong. Just because they think he has something left, doesn't mean he does.

What are you talking about?

Teams never make mistakes in free agency!

I am bracing myself for the crying when Ware gets his first sack. There will be some upset posters on this board. Myself, I don't care. He was done in Dallas. These guys act like Denver knows more about Ware than the Cowboys.

I know this will be taken as blasphemy, but I blame Marineli more than anyone. He was in charge of the line and he had a whole draft and free agency to rebuild the line. He said he was happy despite a line full of 30+ year olds all dealing with injuries.

Wrong it was Kiffin. Darn that old man, he's the one who said the meeting room was full and Jones believed him. Marinelli would coach up what ever he got and be thankful. Now that he's in charge, everything will change. You'll see.
