His running style reminded me of Kmart in one of those highlights. He looks faster than Kmart, though. It would be nice to have a decent punt returner for a change. No offense against Crayton. He does his best, but we need someone who can improve field position a little better.

I don't remember him fielding too many punts at OU, but he does have really quick feet and is a scat-back typ of runner.

They specifically said in the press conference that he's not a return guy. They may have just been referring to kickoff returns, but I doubt it.

Smith is the guy they said could return punts. And they'll use Terence more, since we have much more depth at CB now.

Thanks. We seem to have a never ending need for a good punt returner. We've had adequate guys like Crayton for years. Our kick returners are set with Miles and Felix, although if Miles wins the #2 receiver job, we'd better find someone else to take on those duties.

He never returned punts at OU. He doesnt have the quickness imho.

I do like the pick though. Good hands, strong guy, runs good routes.

solid late pick.

Thanks. I can't bear to listen the some of the pressers. Wade is monotone and Jerry doesn't speak English. I do perk up when Stephen speaks, though. He strikes me as honest and knowledgeable.

When Wade drops his guard and talks specifics about football it's really fun to listen to. The guy has forgotten more about football than everyone in that press conference room knows combined.

Boy he does have some lateral agility.

Yes and I like the fact that he doesn't automatically head outside. He seems to look for an opening and his blockers. Of course my assessment in based entirely on that short DC Fanatic video.

Since you're a Sooners fan, compare him to Mark Clayton. It looks like they have similar builds. Do the comparisons start and stop right there?

Mark Clayton is a better player than Manuel Johnson. Mark Clayton has much better jukes and moves than Manuel Johnson. I think Clayton could return punts if a team needs him to. I just think he had bad quarterback play until last season, since he's been in the NFL. I think Mark Clayton has a chance to really do some good things in the NFL, now that Flacco is the quarterback in Baltimore. That being said, Manuel Johnson is a good player and he has some upside. He fits what the Cowboys need. He is a slot with nice speed and might be capable of breaking some big plays in the NFL. I think Manuel Johnson was a nice pick in the 7th round.

Yeah I agree with MK.

Manny is slightly bigger and stronger than Clayton, but no where near as quick or agile. Clayton is a much better overall WR, but I think Manny can be a really good 4th WR, and work his way up from there. He's definitely less injury prone than Hurd or Austin. He has good hands, and is dependable. I think he would have had a breakout year last year if he had not had gotten that freak injury. But he showed real toughness coming back and playing with that and playing well.

No, no, no, no. There is no way I'd put Terence Newman back there to field punts. T. Newman has missed significant time due to injury in the last two season's and he is on the wrong side of 30.

Funny that someone bumped this old thread because I have thought about this post over the last several weeks. Last year the press was so concerned about the latest Pacman//Tank/Hard Knocks/Deion interview/sideshow act that they rarely asked about football, but Wade is very fun to listen to if and when he can actually get down to talking about the game. (Though you and I may be the only ones who think so.)

I will point out again what I was saying in another post that there seems to be a concerted effort so far this year to improve Wade's presentation at press conferences. He's a lot more serious-looking and authoritative, and you can see it not just in the way he acts, but even in the way the reporters are addressing him. It still doesn't matter as far as the on-field product, but if this keeps up I think it will help his image with the press and the casual fan.
