with all this talk about possibly signing Vanderjagt.. the only thing that scares me is that he can't kickoff.. the consensus is that you have to sign someone else to kickoff if he is your kicker.. wellll.. Parcells values every single roster space, and I just cant see him signing two kickers, one for place kicking and one for kickoffs.. UNLESS... we had a punter that could handle kickoffs.. Ive seen plenty of punters handle kickoffs in the past. so can Mat McBriar? does anyone know? or, how about finding a punter that can? McBriar didnt exactly set the world on fire last season anyways, unless you count the preseason..

He'd better learn quick. He has a strong leg and we're going to need that really really bad.

I thought he punted just fine last year. And I suspect he can't kick off because if he could he would've been doing it last year instead of leaving up to the revolving-door-kickers.

I don't think he can right now, but he could learn. He is a good kicker who is still learning the NFL ropes and what not...I think he could be excellent at kickoffs if was given a season to practice.

He should be able to, I mean he's being paid to kick a ball anyways... what's so hard about kicking it down the field off a tee?? Obviously he knows how to hit the ball

so you guys think that is the better possibility then, if we sign Vanderjagt.. McBriar kicking off rather than signing another kicker (a la Indy with Cortez) just to handle kickoffs? cause like I said, I just cant see Parcells having three kickers for two jobs..

this is exactly what i mean. this is what comes off sitting on your hands with 'TO stars' in your eyes, you dont think clearly about the needs of the team. we should have signed longwell when we had the chance. but we "didnt want to pay him". well now either we will have to pay vinatieri a LOT more that longwell got or waste a roster spot for a kick-off person or live with poor field position. i just dont get BP sometimes, for someone who gives special teams and field position so much importance and likes to play close games why he would not want a solid kicker who can make field goals and kick-off well.
