No ...... Because that would involve punishing the players and Jerry won't let that happen to his friends.

How was he so successful in GB? Obviously, there is more to it than the coach alone. He has a track record of avoiding excessive penalties, UNTIL his arrival in Dallas that is.

I'm sure some would argue ( maybe rightfully so) Rogers close the gap. In other words, with QB on Rogers's level, you can afford a few more penalties.

I believe McCarthy's future will be determined by the results of the season yet to be played. Nobody knows exactly what may occur, although the cards did seem to be stacked against MM well before training camp began. The Cowboys FO did nothing to help his cause but in fact, seemed to do somewhat the opposite by cutting several of their best receivers. It's really anyone's guess if any attempt will be forthcoming to resolve the OL's lingering woes at OT. Perhaps that would reveal if the Cowboys' leadership truly wanted to produce a winning team or not.

How many Head coaches can you think of who looked bad with a multi time MVP at QB?

Jim Caldwell made a SB with one, Brad Childress made an NFCCG with one, Mike Marty made a SB with one, Steve Mariucci made an NFCCG with one his rookie year as coach…

Rodgers has even made Matt Lafleur look like some kind of legendary coach.

Did I miss something ............how are we 2nd after ''2 seasons''? Here's the 2020 season...

https://www.nflpenalties.com/index.php?view=total&year=2020
We were 1st last year in 2021. And the report I saw said after two seasons under McCarthy we were 2nd in penalties only behind KC? So that was a cumulative stat from 2020 and 2021 from a normally reliable source .

Heres 2021 which gives Dallas a total of 281 in these two years. One less than KC.

Patrik: Fair points, but I'd tap the brakes on assigning those issues to 2022 just yet. It goes without saying that the preseason opener had more laundry than your nearest dry cleaner, but it was a heavy mix of young guys – many of whom were literally getting their first dose of actual NFL game speed – so let's see if discipline is an issue on Sept. 11 (from the starters). As for chunk plays, it's no secret that the Cowboys have recently been a bend-but-don't-break defense, and they mostly performed well in limiting the home run ball (having a ton of takeaways helps), so I do think they'll continue to prefer the underneath stuff to avoid game-changing plays downfield; but expect them to truly unleash the hounds in the pass rush to try and clamp down on the chunk plays as well this season.

Of course and if you read my entire piece you’d of seen I mentioned that this was just preseason in which most being penalized won’t be starters.

Beginning to sound as though you were just responding to the title which so many often do.

But the bigger story is still looming when Penalties was one of McCarthy’s biggest agendas this offseason to correct . And the fact we had this outburst of penalties to begin the preseason isn’t a good representation the issue is being resolved .

Yes, we can discount if you want since bulk were committed by most who won’t be playing but it appears to still be a storyline . At least until the season begins.

Procedural based penalties are the easiest to fix, offsides, false starts, etc. The others not so much. Is it better to take a holding penalty or let the QB get hammered or commit a pass interference rather than give up a TD?
Great point
Discipline can fix some penalties
But some penalties come from being beat and out of position, holding to save a QB, grabbing when you are beat on a route
The first ones are the worst because many of the others are worth the risk since you might get away with it
False starts are my most hated penalty

I would add PI when you get beat to prevent an even bigger play.

If MM doesn't put his foot down, his lack of discipline will put him in the hot seat sooner than later.

If just about Penalties, culture has as much to do with that. Raiders have always been bad at it regardless of coach, as have Browns and Lions.

To be clear that's kind of my point. It appears to go beyond the head coach, that is. Unless track records count for nothing. His record prior to being in Dallas would indicate he had a strong grasp on penalties.

In no way was I attempting to claim he was a prolific coach.

But he ranked near the bottom of the league in penalties against in GB. So it wasn't a question of overcoming penalties. They just weren't called.

There is only one fix for penalties, the sideline. They tried that with Williams last season.
