Can Randle be a starter

Is he lead back material? or just a complimentary back? what say you?

Depending on who we get via FA or Draft but I think he's more fresh when it's a 1-2 punch or as back up cause he can play special teams and puts in some good runs.

I think he can get me more yards that are more than 7 yards long. I think he will get me less runs that are between 3-5 yards, which is what Murray did.

Murray was severely underrated on his short runs. He routinely turned short gains into 4-5 yards which is HUGE in our offense. I don't think Randle has enough meat on his bones to do that.

He's not the #1 back for us. We need a guy who's going to grind and punish a defense. He can get most of the carries but we need someone who's going to keep our defense off the field for as long as possible. I think he can start in this league I'm just not sure if he's that back.

He can handle a bigger load of carries but he isn't a starter that you expect 25 carries a game from.

Probably could but I would not want him to be our starter. At the moment I just dont trust him, maybe the year after if he show himself as reliable.

I don't know if he can carry the load like Murray did, but I'd love to see his speed and vision behind this line. Only time will tell.

Don't think he can carry a team, but whatever happens next season I would like to see him take a couple of few drives a game.

I don't believe he is true number one that can carry a full load, IMO. He should have had more carries this year though, especially down the stretch.

He's a platoon back. Would be most effective in a system where we utilize 2 or 3 guys back there

Even if I did feel like he was a starter, we need at least one other back for the depth. You can't count on a RB to last 16 games - we got lucky this year.

No
I agree with Garrett that it is not about the 10-20 yard runs it was more about the 3-4 yard dirty runs that out us in good down and distance

Murray hardly ever went down for a loss

I don't think Randle is that bell cow

Definitely not if the team plans to feature the running game as they did this year. Randle would be worn out before Week 6. I think he's a very good #2 RB who can give you an effective 10-12 carries a game. If Murray is let go, the team needs to add a RB, preferably in the draft. Fortunately there should be good value in rounds 2-4. Keep Dunbar in his current nickel RB role but use him a bit more.

With that said, it's likely the running game will not be as effective without Murray unless we get lucky with a draft pick.

After watching Julius Jones and Felix bulk up for the NFL and lose their mojo, I think Randle is good being a complimentary back and that's where he should remain. If we don't re-sign Murray, lets draft or sign a big, strong back to carry the starter load.

Randle is perfect as the backup RB - he can carry the rock, pick up blitzes (which a lot of RBs can't), plays special teams, has a low salary and we only spent a 5th to acquire him.

But that said, it would be the second version of Marion Barber III's contract extension if you put him into the starter role. He would get pounded and not be as effective.
