I think Rod has done an excellent job. Can he become our defensive guru who just stays with the same team forever and always coaches great defenses like the guys in the thread title???? No worries of him being signed to another team as head coach??? I like what he brings to the team. He is making chicken salad out of chicken you know what right now. Just imagine if he had a real defensive line???

Dont see why not unless some team gets desperate an loses there targets for HC and bites the bullet on a retread.

Although the distinction of being the only HC to go 0-16 cant be easy to shake

The biggest hurdle to him staying in Dallas long-term, if we want him to (and I imagine we do) is coaching in Tampa Bay right now. Though they also have Leslie Frazier down there in that capacity, so they might not have room on the staff to get the whole band back together.

Leslie Frazier is on of the better DC's in football, unless he gets another HC gig I dont see him going anywhere.

I know he is close with Lovie but I hope he develops the same closeness with ***gulp*** Garrett. I hope we keep Kiffin as a consultant as long as he feels like sticking around too as that could work towards keeping Rod here.

Marinelli really seems like the perfect guy for this role with us. He is a tough nosed coach who gets the most out of his players and he runs the 4 - 3 which IMHO is the far superior defense. I never understood a 3 - 4 alignment where one of you top pass rusher has to drop into pass coverage on passing downs  .

He's done a great job with the defensive line stunts.

We don't have a Ware - a guy who can consistently dominate his man - but with Marinelli's stunts yesterday we were able to get a few guys free at Brees.

Put to you this way, things are looking better so far. Anybody notice we havent seen hide nor hair of Monte Kiffin even though he is still on the pay roll?

Kiffin, at least, has gone on publicly about liking Jason and liking the atmosphere in Dallas a lot. I wouldn't be shocked to find out Marinelli feels the same way. It seems like we've got a pretty good vibe around Valley Ranch these days, overall.

rod can get the best out of average players...

that is a testament to his coaching ability to coach players up..

this year's draft we can go strictly defense now that we are shored up on offense.

katy bar the door!!

I would be stunned if Marinelli would be willing to usurp Frazier over in Tampa. If he does take Frazier's job then I wouldn't mind Les over here.

I was envisioning more them all riding off into the sunset in 2-3 years, with Rod taking a passing game coordinator-equivalent position the way Linehan did here in Dallas to help make things work. But I could see he and Kiffin stay here, just as easily, if they like what we've got cooking.

Maybe but I guess that all depends on how much of an affinity he has developed with Dallas and how much he wants to be here. I could not presume that he has loyalty here but I wouldn't be be surprised if he had developed a bond with the organization and the people in it.

I believe Broadus on this one. I think rod likes it here right now and is content with his job last year and hopefully still is. Hopefully money talks if it really comes down to it.

For now, I see Rod Marinelli being Jimmy Johnson's Dave Wannstedt. And this defense getting very together, agitated, and aggressive.

I foresee this current staff staying together for some time, with Jerry Jones paying the bills.

I totally agree. I think his really happy here and his given a lot of freedom to do what he wants with the defense. I also think the organization likes him alot and respects him. That could really mean a world a difference to a coach. Especially when you weren't treated with the respect from the other gigs that he had before.
