Why are so many people talking about the Cowboys taking a wide receiver early in the draft? I know Roy Williams hasn't lived up to the hype, but he can play and I believe he will improve.

We have more pressing needs, such as OL and safety. A WR in the first three rounds just doesn't make sense to me.

Are that many people talking WR?

I didn't think so.

I think OL, Safety, LB and even CB have gotten more air time.

Maybe because we brought in 5 wide receivers in for private workouts. The most out of any position. Maybe you don't think we need one, but apparently Jerry does.

the fact that if Roy sucks again next season their's a good chance it will be his last season as a Cowboy?

After Austin, where's the speed on the outside with this team, If Roy Williams doesn't improve this upcoming year, he'll be cut next year, Crayton is nothing more than a number three at best with no speed, Hurd is nothing more than a special teams player, no speed and will be gone next year too and Olgetree is an unknown, other than that, there's nothing, Receiver is a big need on this team, has been for three eyars now, just not in the first round, but depending on whether Dallas trades down, a late second or third round pick used on a receiver is needed. You don't look at a draft as a one or two year thinking, Receivers take two or three years to develop..see Austin as an example

I don't think Ogleetree is a complete "unknown".

I doubt we'd take one in round 1 or 2. However, we need to find a KR/PR guy and you usually look at either WR or CB for these guys, occasionally at RB.

Crayton and Roy are both up there in age. Hurd and Ogletree are unproven though genuinely liked.

If we don't carry 2 Kickers we might want 6 WRs.

Jerry is interviewing a lot of WRs and even took Dez Bryant out to eat. He is the only one we'd consider in the 1st, but we don't want him. It is due diligence.

Another thing to note is that, while fans are enamored by Ogletree, it's apparent he can't stay out of the coaches' doghouse.

Bottom line is Dallas is in need of a complimentary WR with speed. They may not realistically look at one in the 1st --Bryant is the only candidate -- but they need to be prepared just is case one is available in the 2nd or 3rd.

what did he do to get into their doghouse?

That makes a lot of sense Hos.

I also doubt a WR is chosen in either of the first two rounds.

We might pick a WR at some point in the draft, probably even likely, but I'd think the two things we're more likely to be going after big time in the early part of the draft is Safety and OL. Especially safety now that they cut Hamlin.

I have read a few posts here, but a decent number of mock drafts I have seen have us taking WR in the second or third.

I agree we need a kick returner, but we need OL depth badly and a FS.

We might have a FS on the roster right now, but McQ and Proctor don't make me feel warm and fuzzy about OL depth. As it stands right now, we are one injury away from watching the line break down, and I don't see a mid round draft choice fixing that.

We are really good at WR now; but getting a couple of late rd guys with speed to develope would not be a bad idea. Frankly we are better off at WR then many teams are, especially with our strength at TE added in. Age with Crayton is not really a concern; not being a speed guy he will last longer then most. Now if Roy does not really produce this year then he is gone, but that alone is our only real concern at WR at this time. So unless a really good one falls to us and there are NO O line guys or Safeties around, I do not see us using any of our first three picks on WR.
