Can someone please answer a salary-cap question (sorry, this is T.O. related)?

I keep reading that if Dallas cuts T.O. they will only save 600,000 against the cap in 2009. Firstly, is that an accurate figure?

Also, I thought that if a player is cut after June 1st then his salary cap hit can be spread over the next two seasons (for T.O., that's seasons 2009 and 2010 if cut this offseason). So does that in fact apply to T.O.'s contract if he was cut after June 1st this offseason?

And lastly, isn't 2010 supposedly an un-capped year, and if so, then wouldn't allocating half of T.O.'s cap hit into 2010 -- if it's possible -- make the best sense, justifying cutting him after June 1st if the intent is to cut him this offseason after all?

Its costs 600k more to cut him than it does to keep him

There is no June 1 cut date this year all cap hits come this year no matter when the player is cut as long as there is no new CBA

If there is a new CBA in the next couple months then ok, but chances are slim and none IMO

That will be determined in the next CBA, but I'll be shocked if it happens before June. The NFLPA doesn't even have a successor for Upshaw yet.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is an owner lock out this year. No way the owners go into the season without a cap, and new NFLPA leadership is going to want to make its mark.

Could get ugly.
