the thought behind the new Volkswagen marketing campaign?

You buy a Volkswagen and get a First Act guitar which can be plugged into the car stereo.

Uh, hello?

Am I supposed to play the guitar while I'm driving? Do I keep the guitar in the back seat at all times? Or do I run the car in my garage, with the guitar plugged in and the engine running until I die from Carbon Monoxide poisoning?

I am truly confused as to how this is going to help sell a Volkswagen.

You know you can play a car radio without having the engine running eh?

Far as the campaign...I think it is pretty stupid but I guess it is catering to the younger and the pimp my ride generation.

Plus if I want to play guitar, I think I would rather play on one of my existing guitars instead of one that has a VW octave fret marker lol.

This made me think...(uh oh)

To BP and Juke.

What guitar that you currently own is your favorite one to play? And why?

Allow me to clarify the question if I may.

I used to own this P.O.S. Squire Strat that I used to beat the hell out of all the time. Tried all my new (gulp) Van Halen tricks on it. Had to tune it constantly...after a while it became my fave just because I had it so broken in that I could just let loose on it. But I never once played it when it mattered. I should have.

Anyway, which one in your bag of tricks is your fave?

Kinda sorta impossible to answer.

I have a few favs.

A Taylor 614ce. If I want an "electric" sound on an acoustic. It's very bright sounding and easy on the hands.

My Strat. Either ya love 'em or ya don't. But it's just got "that" sound.

And if I want to knock over furniture without plugging into an amp, my SJ200 will do the trick.

Funny stuff about the squire. It must have been like an old, worn, broken in pair of jeans.

:)

Your kidding? Dang. :)

So, my other option is to park my car somewhere, plug my guitar into the dash, and play until I kill the battery.

Hey...funny stuff...I noticed the VW marker too.

For bluesy sounds I like my Schecter plus it is just a nice looking guitar.

For the feel of the fret board I like my Warlock as it has an ebony fretboard.

For great overall feel of the neck I like my new Dean Razorback. It is a shorter scale neck so it just feels more comfortable to play.

For great rock/metal sound I would say my upgraded Jackson Dinky. The new emg 81/85 pickups really nail some great harmonics and the new paint job looks nice.

I would like to meld my Dinky, warlock and razorback together.

Would take the new paint job and 81/85 pu set from my jackson, take the fretboard and fret markers from my Warlock and put everything on the body and neck of my razorback.

My schecter I would leave alone. Nice Neck, nice inlays, nice seymour pickups and overall good look and sound.

As far as the Squire Strat, the bridge setup is not really the best if you play hard and do whammy bar tricks because it does not have the locking nut so they are bad about going out of tune if you play that way with the standard tremolo setup that fender uses.

You know if you ever get in a crazy state of mind and just want to give that taylor away for free...always think of me. I love that guitar and it's sound.

Far as the Strat...Funny thing is I have always loved the sound of the strat as I like a bright sound. It is just the other stuff around the sound I don't care for lol.

However I think if I found a strat with a thin neck and a better trem I might think about getting it.

My first thought was, what about all the people who dont own/play guitar, like me. kind of limiting you target population for sales

Ah, you mean this weird looking blue guitar?

:D

The Strat that I have plays beautifully...it's damn near impossible to get any distortion at a low volume...which is a great excuse for CRANKING it.

You should hear my jackson now.

With the emg 81/85 and a 20 db booster switch.

I can have the switch off on the guitar playing through a clean channel and it is so clear...hit the switch and it kicks into an overdrive and gives you a clean/distortion similar to how angus young sounds when he gets going.

Pretty sweet.

Do you plug it into your VW?

What kind of natural sound does the Jackson have???

I don't have a VW :laugh2:

Natural sound for the jackson is pretty nice. Have to remember this is an import so it will not be as good as say a custom shop but still pretty nice natural sound.

The emgs are actually much clearer with a clean channel than I expected. Don't know why but I expected them to be somewhat muddy but they are not. Must be because they are active compared to the emg-hz's that came with the guitar. Those Emgs were a tad muddy.

I figure if you don't get it, you are just too darned old and they aren't targeting you anyway.

By the way, I don't get it.

It's like Lewis Black says about some commercials they play on the Super Bowl that you just don't get.

"Three rabbits are sitting on a log. One goes home and commits suicide.....Buy a bike"
