Can the Cowboys afford to have Micah and Osa on top deals?

Is this possible to make happen, is it smart to have this happen when we have so many holes to fill on defense, please give your thoughts! I bet Stephen is going crazy right now, all this pie about to be given out

Dear Stephen Jones, just give them long term deals with void years for flexibility. That way, you can continue to ADD additional players to your team. It's not that hard. It must kill him to pay players.

I don't think Osa's deal would be top but he definitely lands in the top 15.

For all the high ranking positional NFL salaries the Cowboys give out, where are the playoff wins from having all these great players?

I think they even set some kinda all time record in 2023 with 9 All Pros on the team.
But then got obliterated at home by a #7 seed in the playoffs.

Are all of them just playoff phobic or something? Well, I mean I know the QB is but seriously.
Honest question.

Is Osa going to get a “top deal”?

The rumored 21m would be around 13th apy as of today, before any other DTs get new deals.

In another two years it might still be a top 30 contract at the position.
But when we're paying over the top on a QB, top dollar for WR1 (and soon to overpay your LG and injury hit CB2), then paying Micah and Osa .....just to stand still, becomes a problem. Especially as we need to add a marked improvement from a One-Tech + another pass-rusher.
Again ,going back a year, we should of traded those one year deals (inc Osa) and reinvested in draft capital....around manageable rookie deals and working on player development.

That's the problem we're paying players that had a good season or two big money!! We won't pay outside guys big money, but we will pay our guys very nice! I agree with everything you said, there should be more wins, maybe our players aren't that good

Thinking outside the box on Osa.

If he was a FA off another team's roster would you sign him to a long term 21 million deal? Would you give him a 1 year 25M deal (equal to the franchise tag price)? Or would you pass and look elsewhere? Would you gamble that no one else will pay him a LTD at 21M and you could pick him up down the road for a few million less?

If I'm the Cowboys I let him test the market, I would NOT tag him, he plays on the tag deal bets on himself, and next year the STARTING rate for him would be to ask for 25 million

Yeah they can. Obviously we need to see what the final numbers look like before having hard opinions, but the OSA deal isn't likely to be that bad. The rumors have been 5 years at around $22M. If he gets something in the neighborhood of 5/$110M with about 55-60% of that guaranteed they'll be able to spread that cap hit around with minimal issue and should be able to get out of it after the first couple years if they need to.

From a cap standpoint its probably similar to the Diggs deal, but probably with a little bit more guaranteed money involved. Diggs so far is only in year 2 of his extension and can be easily cut (if not injured) if the Cowboys wanted to go that way. I get that one hasnt worked out due to injury, but it is more of an injury issue than it is a bad deal. A healthy Diggs would be a steal at his current price. Unless OSA is being unreasonable in negotiations this is a deal that should be more of a risk for Jerrys wallet than the cowboys cap health, and I have no issue gambling with Jerrys money.

The bigger issue is the Parsons extension which you just have to hope he is serious about doing something team friendly and taking a contract more in line with the Nick Bosa 5/$170M (70% guaranteed).

Pimp you're the best this sounds great, when you say the out in a few years that is great to me so we're not tied down if said player isn't what we thought and needs to be let go! I hope he continues to play well

We just get too caught in up what $20M sounds like. In todays cap money it's not the end of the world, the structure of the deal is way more important. The number of years and guaranteed money is waaay more of a factor.

Simple and to the point, many don't realize this is the difference between the Cowboys and the eagles roster building methods.

Of course they can. Some here told us HIGH salaries are irrelevant in acquiring top free agents......in fact they've started entire threads defending it
