Can the Cowboys afford to have Micah and Osa on top deals?

Right now they can't fit any of this in. They have to make some moves to clear CAP space. If they tag Osa, then they almost have to restructure Dak to bring down his $90 million CAP number. They will almost certainly restructure CeeDee, and extending Micah will create some CAP space too.

They will structure Osa's new deal so his CAP number is low this year. The same with Micah. What they have to worry about is 2027. Dak's number will drop to $61.7 (if they don't restructure him in 2025 and 2026). But CeeDee's will be at least $36.7, Steele $21.5, and Diggs, $23.5. I am guessing Steele will be gone before them and maybe Diggs too.

They also have to plan for Tyler Smith and Bland. Their contracts will be coming up after this year. I assume they will pick up the 5th year option on Smith, or just give him an extension this year.

This show how drafting well has a downside.

yes. absolutely. most people just take the AAV and calculate that we can't afford 60M...but their cap hit this year could be around 25-30M combined if they do the contracts right.

and the cap hit is likely back loaded. It should be south of that 7% figure the first couple years and the Cowboys will likely have an option to cut bait after that as long as Jerry doesnt let the guaranteed money get out of control.

I kinda agree with what you're saying, but I think this goes back to a Jerry/Stephen issue more than anything. They've convinced the fan base that they have to be ultra conservative with contracts or else its impossible to recover. Signing a very average Jawaan Taylor at $20M a year didnt keep KC out of the super bowl. Philly signed and moved on from Hasaan Reddick after a year.

Yes they can't be stupid with their money, but I dont view $20M as complete player money anymore either. Its around 7% of the cap which is like the top 120-140 biggest contracts in football. For recent contracts its guys along the lines of Budda Baker, Jonathan Greenard, Orlando Brown, Ed Oliver, Khalil Mack etc. Some good players, some OK players, some flawed players, some aging players, some young players still developing.

I think the bigger issue is this is the type of signing the Cowboys tend to make and just say the position has been addressed. In reality they should be doubling down on a signing like this and protect OSA with someone who can rotate with him on run downs. Get him closer to 700 snaps a year and keep him fresh for what he does best while minimizing his exposure to what he does poorly.
