PPG can be misleading. Take out the Denver game and that drops us by 1.3 points a game for the season. Conversely, a game we win by say 14-10 is a win which is much more important but it really drags down the PPG for the offense.

You can have 2-3 blowouts in a season and it will make your offense look a lot better then it actually is.
I don't think you mean blowouts: the Denver game wasn't a blowout. You mean games where you score a huge amount, whether it's a blowout or not.

I would argue that if you DON'T have 2-3 huge scoring games in a season, your offense isn't that good. That's what teams with great offenses do: they make the scoreboard light up like a Christmas tree from time to time.

1983 is not the actual record. That was over a 16 game season and we averaged 29.9 points per game. That isn't the best. In 1968, a 14 game season we scored an average of 30.8 points per game. Carried forward that would just over 492 point on the season.

That isn't the best either. In 1966, also a 14 game season, we averaged 31.8 points per game. Carried forward that would be almost 509 points on the season.

Hostile, I did in my initial post note the 1966 season. I would say that 1983 is the record for total points in a season and 1966 most points per game. I saw the teams at the end of the 70s and saw the 1983 team, but the 1966 team was before my time. Some of the old timers could enlighten us on watching that offense.

They called that Offense "Speed, Incorporated." No one could cover Bob Hayes. That led to the invention of Zone Defenses to to try and stop them.

With our inexperienced mouse of a defense, we score less than 30 and we can kiss any game goodbye.

It is an interesting question. While the Cowboys defense has a load of question marks, the offense has a lot of things to count on and should be very good as long as Romo is healthy. Averaging 30 points per game, 480 points would be a record, but possible I think.

Some notable years:

Last year we scored 439 points, 27.4 points per game.

2007 we scored 455 points.

1983 is the record with 479 points scored.

1966 is notable for 445 points scored in 14 games, 31.7 points per game, pretty impressive.

What do you think?

With the upgrade to the O-line, Escobar having a year under his belt, and with relative health then yes.
