Can the Cowboys draw the best players if the salary cap is discontinued?

Will the Cowboys be able to draw top talent with the new perception of the team as the worst in the NFL? Jerry Jones image is taking a big hit lately. Will good/great players shy away from the perceived circus that is Big D? I'm not asking if Jerry Jones deserves it, blah, blah, blah. I'd just like people's honest opinions about whether or not we can motivate elite players to come here with the perceived current state of affairs.

Absolutely. Jerry got Parcells here after three 5-11 seasons, right?

This isn't the worst franchise in the NFL -- far from it. And in the end, money talks. The new stadium is going to be a huge revenue-generator for Jerry, and he'll be willing to spend it to win.

But I don't think we're getting an uncapped season anyway.

and if we do get an uncapped season, it isnt exactly the free for all in regards to signing players that some people think it is...I recall reading tons of rules and oddities about it

personally I think the uncapped yr will be more to DUMP existing players than to acquire new ones, because you would theoretically be able to unload all those huge salary cap hits into one offseason.

I agree this isn't the worst franchise, but you wouldn't know it from some of the articles being written, some of the commentary on TV and even some of the posts on this board. I know money talks, so Jerry should be able to draw big-time players (not big-name players). I was just wondering how much of a hit the franchise's reputation has taken from all the negative publicity.

I don't think it's taken any of a hit, or only a tiny one. ESPN and the like simply cater to all the fans out there that hate the team. If we were really that bad off, we'd be a Lions or Raiders or Jaguars team that doesn't even get discussed.

Besides, by next year people will be forgetting all about this "turmoil" story that keeps getting repeated. Probably long before then.

(And not to get your thread off track, but if we actually cut TO, watch the perception change in a heartbeat.)

We are perceived as the worst NFL team?

You mean worse than the Lions or Raiders?

I hate to disagree with ya here but on this one, I gotta.

The Cowboys are the most glamorous NFL franchise, they will have the most profitable stadium, and Jerry Jones will spend money. They can sign players under any scenario. The question is whether they can build a team.

I agree somewhat with the OP. I do think we've taken a hit although its not enough to be the worst in the league. I can't answer if its enough to stop some from signing here. I think that all things else being equal, players are looking at the ability to fit in with a new team, consider if that team can get to a SB, the weather of a city and its culture, yada yada yada. Some players call former players to ask questions. It's not a black and white answer.

I don't buy into the perception, but I have actually read posts here stating that the Lions are in better shape than Dallas because they have three early draft picks. I have read in places other than this board that the Cowboys are now the laughing stock of the league. Jerry Jones is the new Al Davis, etc. As asinine as it may be, the perception is out there. I don't agree that this franchise is as bad off as all that.
