Get ready to answer this question a whole lot this year! What do I mean ? Well we seem to be facing/ or will face several teams that are ranked very high vs the run. Funny thing is when we get done with them are they still ranked high ? hmmmm NOT SO MUCH :lmao:. Let's look shall we

Giants - Caught us early and were very lucky ( they won't be next time around ) they are pretty good vs the run and after our game and several others are still ranked 12

Commanders - are honestly not good vs the run and are ranked 30th vs the run

Bears - had lots of injuries so I cannot fault them too much but they now rank 24th

49ers - Not sure where they were but were supposed to be really good at home - ranked 31st

Bengals - Run D hadn't allowed 100 yards or Td - they got obliterated ranked now 20th

Packers - ranked 1st now Stay tuned to see where they end up after the boys do work

But after the pack we face some more highly ranked run D's:
Eagles week 8 ranked 3rd
Steelers week 10 currently ranked 5th
Ravens week 11 currently ranked 4th
Vikings Week 13 currently ranked 6th
Giants week 14 ranked 12th
Eagles week 17

Expect this topic and conversation all year about can we run on this team can we do it vs that team?

Just an FYI I don't think any team can stop our run game! But it's gonna be a fun time finding out and a lot of teams are gonna be saying what the Bengals said after that game !

I kinda wish Seattle was on the schedule this year just so we ram it down there throats also ! :muttley:

So I hope you all love talking about the run game and speculating !

Most definitely. In college you see great running teams that rely on the spread or option, something that could be shut down with the right scheme. Our running game is all power and it's relentless. Defenses will wear down in games and throughout the season. Our execution will keep improving.

We should run very well on every team provided that we aren't too predictable doing it. It is damn near impossible to run into a 9 man front and we were doing it a lot early on when teams were selling out to stop the run. They may sell out to stop the run and force Dak to pass it on almost every down.

If they play us mostly honest and respect the pass, we should gash the **** out of them on the ground.

I expect Capers to do exactly that on Sunday--present a '9-man' line. Not every play, but at times. 7 crowded tight in the box...corners in press coverage. I think he'll want to see how Dak responds when he gets hit. They'll play press on the Cowboy receivers to disrupt timing.

A brilliant DC like Capers will risk a lot to try to get Prescott in third and twelve or third and fifteen.

The Bengals surprisingly were quite vanilla on Sunday. I don't think we see a repeat of that at Lambeau field.

This isn't the first time the box will be crowded this season. That formula hasn't really worked against Dak this year.

At what point do we give the Cowboys offense the credit it deserves?

If the defense continues to improve, then its goodnight for the rest of the NFL.

Well written; enjoyed reading.

You may very well already know this, but for the sake of conversation near and dear to me, I feel obligated to point out that this is one of those stats that can be very misleading. After 16 games, it does say something, as the top teams in this category tend to be around in January, but even they can be exposed when they face the Cowboys. It doesn't necessarily mean that team was actually bad after all. It simply means the Cowboys combination of Zeke, the offensive line and the threat of Dak running is that good. The football watching world has not seen the like of this marriage since I don't remember when. And, like you, I don't think it will be stopped.

That is not to suggest that these Cowboys are unstoppable as a whole...it just makes every other aspect of winning a whole lot easier. It is the safer of QB to player exchanges. It promotes time of possession, which admittedly can be misleading, but in the context of the question it is not as that in itself helps keeps the defense fresh. It opens passing lanes. It makes play action more effective. The morale on the sidelines is off the charts as being able to move the ball on the ground at will gives a team a chance in any game. Again, they might not win them all, but that is an option for them. Few teams have that luxury...and those other teams that do will be the road through the playoffs and into the Super Bowl. At that point winning becomes more about how many different things a team does well. Given their current trajectory of improvement as a team, they could be a serious contender down the stretch. The game that could be the ultimate litmus test will likely be the Vikings...and we have the Eagles twice.

Either way, it's going to be alot of fun to watch.

The Giants have an enormous middle of their defensive line. The Cowboys struggled with it. They may struggle again.

Cincy relies on their personnel and keeps it simple. Similar to Seattle. GB does a bit more stunting and run blitzing attacking gaps. If you call the right plays and execute, you can obviously find open space and use that aggressive scheme against them.

Should be a good battle. There will probably be more short/negative gains than we've been used to recently, but hopefully we're able to make our share of big plays in the run game.

I thought about that, too. But a patient Zeke seems to be much better at finding those seams. Leary seems more ready to create them than Collins, too.

I truly think we are going to run all over them.

Like most I am very interested to see how this plays out.
That game where the Giants manhandled our offensive line still haunts me.
My hope is that our play calling has improved enough that we can adjust during the game to avoid that playing out again.

Like another poster I am expecting GB to sell out to stop the run. With Dez out again I'm sure they feel T Will, Besley, and Butler shouldn't be able to hurt them enough. Of coups I though the Bengals would do this also and you see how we carved them up.

Nice commentary.... Dak presents a whole new option vs Troy & Emmitt and Tony plus DeMarco. We haven't had this type of passer/scrambler since Rodger S & Tony Dorsett...

Linehan. That is the weapon.

They crowd the line, he comes back with exotic formations putting pressure on the DBs. They start to ease back to cover Dak's passing game, then the OL rips them a new ***.

The defense is what concerns me.

But i'm never right about any of this stuff. So there's that.

I agree with this. Moreover, the QB is more in sync with the receivers. What I really want to know is if the coaches are better at calling the plays that work well for this team as it is currently configured. Will we try to get GB out of their element early in the game? <deep throw, screen plays, flooding an area, etc...> It will be fun to watch. Also on defense can we get pressure on Rodgers?

I don't know if Green Bay's run defense is good or if they've just faced poor running attacks: JAX MIN (lost AP early) DET NYG.

Might be a combination of both, but Dallas is probably the best run offense they'll have faced thus far this season.

there are some schemes that may focus on stopping the run that may slow us down BUT,
the cowboys are who determines whether we are effective of not.
based on injuries and effort and execution. (period, drop mike, etc)

With Byron Jones back there, and Claiborne showing great improvement I see hope for the coming years if we put the same focus on D that we did on O Line. Get us top ten or 5 Defense and look out 90's revisited....
