Can the defense be fixed in one season?

-2 starting sideline to sideline linebackers.
-1 slot corner as good as Jordan Lewis while praying that Revel makes a 2nd year leap in growth and Bland returns to pre injury form as the other boundary.
-Haven't looked any further than Downs at the safety position as far as college prospects but he would be a home run.
-Praying for Parker's secondary expertise to do his magic with existing personnel otherwise.
-Re-signing Clowney while also signing an impactful FA edge guy.

THAT would do it.

And if so, what would you guys do?
Only if we start by acquiring 2 above average LBs and 1 ballhawking FS. That's the first 3 needs that need addressing, and if any of those is left off the list, nothing will be fixed.

Knowing Jerry, he'll take CB and Edge while the opposing O's eat us up short and intermediate because our LBs suck.

Yes, simply because it can't get worse. The bar is on the floor. We gave up 35 passing TDs last year. Just having a coordinator who understands modern coverage concepts and doesn't leave his DBs out to dry is going to make us look instantly better. We don't need to be the '85 Bears. We just need to be average. With this offense, an average defense gets us 12 wins. Parker can definitely get us to average in one offseason.

You could return the exact same players (except Kenneth Murray) and with a new coaching staff could be good enough to win about 5 more games.

The Eberflus and his scheme made everyone look bad.
- His insistence on playing Kenneth Murray sealed their fate.
Since they were 28th the year before and lost Parsons/DLaw/Golston/Lewis, why do you think this?

Exactly. The coordinator alone can improve the D a little, but to get middle of pack we need like 4-6 new quality starters at all 3 levels. I have a feeling Eberflus reeeally had players in a bad scheme and game plans…we already lack talent but bad talent with bad coaching made it worse. Coaching absolutely matters.

To piggy back Ill re-state what ksk said here.

If we don't have 3 new starting caliber linebackers to include the oft injured Overshown it wont make any difference whatsoever.

The second level/middle of the dee will be exploited badly.

I think I still have PTSD from that Carolina film clip and the parting of the Red Sea of our so called defense.
Not a linebacker to be found.

And NO, that wasn't an isolated incident, it was repeated weekly.

It's happened before but in sure the posters who yap nonstop on here and are always wrong will say it's never happened and it's impossible when there are clear examples.

Example 1 without looking. Chargers before Harbaugh and then look at his first year. I'm sure somebody will say b b but the chargers weren't ranked 32nd
