Can this team be fixed and move in the right direction this year?

Can this team be fixed and move in the right direction this year and possibly do some damage in the playoffs or do you stick a fork in it?

I think we’re beyond fixing at this point

I personally believe the best thing that can happen is a real evaluation of they young players on the team and a determination of who stays and who goes.

I thought this would be a 6-10 to 7-9 type year with some good wins at the end of the season as mm starts to get them together....looking more and more like that.

but....this does not mean tanking, it means finding the guys that will play hard even if they are lessor talents and doing things they can be built off of going to next year

I think we are about to go on a run and win 6 or 7 out of 8. The defense has bottomed out and can’t get worse. I think the coaches will simplify the defense a little and will have some starters return.

In a few more games Knight and Biadazs will be settled in and Biadazs will be an upgrade.
We may not have the best coaches but I think as a group they will make adjustments.

Reduce turnovers and get this defense to a level that isn't embarrassing. I certainly think that you can fix things, if we are realistic about expectations of what fixed is.

You won't turn this into a top 10 defense without adding talent, but is it realistic to expect improvement? Yes, and if this defense can be even a top 20 unit in the league are we 2-2 right now? 3-1?

My only hope is that all the ridicule lights a fire under the defense.

Not entirely on them, either. Zeke and Dak need to stop putting the ball on the ground.

WRs are balling out, though. And so is Dak, but only when they're down 20. He can't get the offense going and sustain it throughout the game.

The next 4 games are very important and really must win all of them. If the defense improves even by 20%, and the offenses protects the ball. No reason why we can't win the next 4.

Giants, Cards at home, then FB Team and Eagles on the road. We will get players back for those road games, and even possibly the home games.
Come home to play the Steelers and being at 5-3, or say we lose to the Cards, be 4-4 win 3 division wins will be huge actually.

After the Steelers game, win or lose, we get a bye, and get LVE back. I would not risk him coming back before then.

Then we play the Vikings which now seems to be a winnable games, and the FB Team again. We could be 6-5 or 7-4 or even 8-3 (doubtful) heading into the playoff push.
Now this is the optimistic me speaking. In reality, if the team does not improve defense wise, and the turnovers do not stop. Then we are looking at 3-8 or 4-7 and at a top 15 draft pick.

only 1/4 of the way through.....teams have turned things around with this much time

YES its not over until its mathematically over and in the NFCE and with an extra WC spot, theres more time then usual..

Yes it can be fixed. Eliminating mistakes on offense and trusting the defense.

Also in our Covid world it doesn’t matter if we are on the road or at home now. We’ve actually played better on the road against better opponents this year.

We know we are never out of a game so that helps.

4-0

Do damage in the playoffs??? Way too early to discuss that. As for this year yes there is hope. My main reasons are:

1. NFCE is a hot mess so 8-9 wins could win the division

2. The offense has been very good. Zeke is a waste of cap space in this era but besides him the offense has been good. This is despite the injuries on the OL.

3. Randy Gregory will help the pass rush soon. So we may not need DLaw and his lack of production.

4. Mean reversion on the defense - it can’t continue to be this bad.

5. Diggs will only get better so he is going to help this secondary.

6. 12 games left and 6 divisional games. All winnable.

7. I still believe in Mike McCarthy. The problems on the defensive side will be worked on. I expect Edwards to get more say and slim this playbook down.

8. Dak’s having his best season. Sorry haters the guy can play.

9. The Giants absolutely suck and they are coming at the right time. This team needs a win and some confidence and they will get that this week.

10. LVE should be able to help at some point. My sense is that it is he who will steal the worst LB in Cowboys history’s snaps.

I think they can, but I can't say for certain they they will. I thought that they would play better this past week on defense because they weren't having to face a Super Bowl quarterback. Going into that games, they had faced top ten offense's the first three weeks. Cleveland's was ranked much lower. But then they gave up 307 yerdas rushing and showed me and everyone else that they're not good at stopping anything.

Add to that several offensive turnovers giving the opponent short fields and easy points and it's been a recipe for disaster.

But I still do think that if they can just eliminate some of the mistakes and stop shootings themselves in the foot that the offense is good enough to win weekly shootouts until the defense can start to just slow opponents down a little. If we can get even passable defensive play, I think the offense is potent enough to where, if they play mistake free, we can win games.

Probably neither.

The focus for a team with a new coaching staff even in the offseason should be the 2nd season with the new staff.

Super Bowl winning teams normally didn't tank the previous season; therefore "stick a fork in it" is not helpful to the chances in 2021.

They need to find a way to play better and develop as a "team" under the new coaching staff and show up for game 1 of next season ready to roll.

The correct method to utilize this season would be to base everything on the improvements needed for next season.

Of course it can be fixed. Remember they were 3-5 in 2018 and did a complete 180 in the second half of that season. Nearly everything that is wrong with this team can be fixed.. If Nolan cannot get guys to execute his defense then he either needs to change his defense or let somebody else coach it. The offense can't be asked to be perfect and score 40 every game. That's just not realistic. I think the turnover thing is a blip on the radar. Dak typically doesn't turn the ball over a lot and neither does Zeke. I fully expect that to go away on its own. Especially now that Tyron is back and the coaching staff has (hopefully) come to its senses and won't be asking some undrafted free agent to block one of the best DEs in the league one on one. I think we're about to get 3-4 straight games of continuity on the o-line which should give Zeke some running lanes and allow Dak more time to go through his progressions and make throws. Remove the turnovers and get the defense to just play "bad" instead of all time stinking horrible and we won't have to climb out of 20 point holes.. That should help.

Of course it can, do you see a Beast in the East? I didn't think they were a deep playoff team but I still think they can and will win the East.

A lot of what they've been doing is beating themselves with a D system that doesn't fit the talent and a HC making questionable decisions. That can be fixed.

McCarthy has shown a willingness to adjust.
i'm curious to see how he responds to the issues on defense.
players seem to be in position to make a play...and they just don't.
i don't think that points to scheme or coaching.
it points to the players.
maybe dumb things down a bit.
blitz more.
put some of the kids in.
but McCarthy was willing to give an udfa a shot or 2....moved Martin out to OT and is getting alot of production out of Dalton Schultz.
he needs to turn his attention to the defense...and start movin' pieces around.
im curious to see how he responds on that side of the ball.
Nolan is the dc...but Big Mc is the boss.
he needs to address it.

It’s too late. Our schedule shows it’s going to be very tough to win a few games. I thought we could win at least once against the Cardinals, 49ers, Steelers, Ravens, and Vikings, but they’re offenses will be too hard to stop. Even with the addition of Anthony Brown, Chido, LVE, and Gregory. They’re better than what we have now, but they aren’t world beaters like Aaron Donald that can shift a defense.

at most, we’ll win all our division games, and that’s a coin flip right now. You can NEVER count out Filthy, no matter how much we hate them and how little they have on their team, they can come away with wins when least expected. Washington has a head coach that adjusts now. He’s also a pretty good defensive coach with a good D-line. Won’t be easy playing them either. Finally, Giants suck. But they have one weapon: Jason Garrett. Not because he’s a good coach, but because he knows EVERYTHING about EVERYONE on this team. Dak, Zeke, Amari, Gallup, D-Law, Jaylon, X. Woods, Hill, etc. He knows how to get in their heads. He knows how to counteract their play style. He knows how each player runs and holds the ball. The Giants will use this to their advantage. As if our defense wasn’t bad enough, Jason Garrett knows the ins and outs of this defense enough to exploit it through and through.

All I can say is, we better be lucky we don’t have to face the Packers or the Chiefs. We’d be in for a long ride if we did...

anyways, this team could be anywhere from 1-15 to 7-9 at most. That’s all I got...
