Can Trysten Hill be an effective 3-4 End, should we convert to that 3-4 scheme under new DC Mike Nolan ?

He was drafted to be a one gap, 3 tech DT. But should we go to the 3-4. ..and he can't adapt or adjust- that could end up being a wasted pick.
Or with the right DC, right DL coach, Hill adjusts, develops far more than what he came in under Rod Marinelli. (all those inactive game days for most of the year!)

I cant wait until Nolan explains what base defense he is going to use here in Dallas, and well as who will be the new DL coach that Hill will have to work under.

This new coaching move will be very important to the future of Hill and what cross roads we are going to have him head for.

Team is going to play 4-3 hopefully with little bit of 3-4 sprinkled in.
It’s vastly overrated for modern NFL era.

He was a 3-4 end as a freshman under Scott Frost and did pretty good.

Every team runs a 1-gap defense these days, even nominal 3-4 fronts. Scheme fit isn't a concern.

I hear ya, but I disagree.
Baltimore continues to gather the big boys like Michael Pierce, Brandon Williams, Daylon Mack, etc.
You don't do that for a 1 gap scheme. You do so these big boys can clog and stuff the lanes at the point of attack and occupy two blockers.

I think you are looking at BEST an average DT at most. He was pretty much a head case in college who has raw talent and not much internal motivation to get better. We so reached on that pick at that time. We desperately needed a safety and spit the bit when the time came to make the selection.

At this point, Hill isn't even an effective BACKUP DT. He cant even get into a weak DT rotation. I wouldn't bank on him being anything but someone tk give starters a breather.

New coaching staff means a chance to clean house. No worthier trash to take out than tristy. He's not even practice squad worthy.

Do you know the history of his "head case"?

Do you know the prior ties he had with the Cowboys staff?

The is a reason the cowboys drafted him when they did. The Cowboys didn't considered a reach at all and in fact, they were holding their breath he would get drafted ahead of their pick.

We don’t even know if he can play DT in the 4/3.

To me he’s like taco
Has some talent but not willing to put in the work to grow as a player
Lived off raw talent

Nolan is a 43 guy IMO. He's been DC for both schemes but if you look back, he's had much more success with the 43 then he has the 34. His 34 teams have actually been pretty damn bad, to be honest.

He needs to toughen up a bit,, looks like a Baby Huey.

I really wish people would stop bringing this guy up. He would have to be a completely different player next year for me to even acknowledge his existence especially with all the Safeties we missed out on. Sickening still...

If they convert to 3-4 where exactly does the $100MM, 5 Sack, Scooter Guy play? OLB? How will he fare standing up? Not sure about that.

I agree. Until he shows it on the playing field; we have nothing more than a project.

I typed this without looking at any posts but know when I scroll back up to begin reading I will be getting my laugh on.
