Can we expect this play in our playbook?

The staple play of the Cowboys' running attack was the lead draw, when Moose, Emmitt, and the O-line had it going on in the 90's. Jason Garrett of course was back up, but also got to see the effectiveness of the play during spot duty in Dallas. In Julius' first season in Dallas, the draw play was his most successful running play, as he pushed for 1,000 yards after missing about seven weeks with his shoulder blade injury. Does the draw play become our signature running play, now that Garrett is involved in the offense?

We tried to run it but it never worked.

We did try and run it....every @$$@$@% time it was 3rd and 15+. Ridiculous. I don't recall seeing us spread the offense and running it in short yardage situations too many times this past year. Playcalling was unbelievably predictable in 2006.

Yes, on third down and 15 -- or more!
On those plays it was always a good time to get a beer or sneak a kiss from the lass.:D

I hope that any play involves getting TO the ball short and letting him sprint will be our signature play.

If - by "every *&#^*&% time it was third and 15+" - you mean "7 times ALL year when it was third and 11+", then I completely agree. ;)

FWIW, we threw the ball on third and 11+ 32 times last year.

Good lord man. LOL. you must be bored as he!!...:D

Ok, fine, then let me rephrase it by saying that it "seemed" like 3rd and 15+ was the only time we used the draw play...I am in no way trying to use absolutes here buddy.:D

It's not a big deal. Sometimes things aren't as they seem. This is just one of those times. I agree that we did not spread other teams out enough and then run it. My theory is that this is just a product of the two back system. When we take Julius out, and put more WRs on the field, it can be either pass or run, because Barber was more versatile as a receiver, blocker and runner on those draws, at least this year. If Julius was in there with 4 wide, you know he's getting the ball. Just something that could be better from a one-back system, IMO, where a guy is not playing a role, rather doing it all. More unpredictable.

I didn't have any disdain for our playcalling last year. You don't need an incredible variety. Just good execution and properly timed "shots". I thought our staff did a decent job. It could have been better, so I'm glad they kept Sparano and brought on others to help it even more.
