Can We Finally Move Tyrone Crawford?

There is not value in cutting him. He has not business being a starter but no reason he can't contribute as a rotational player.

Nice hyperbole. He doesn't finish consistently but he does generate pressure consistently.

Whine about his salary. Do not whine about his play.
There was zero hyperbole. He shouldn't be a DE on a four man line, period.

He has no business being a RDE on any four man line.

Since we drafted Armstrong, I think it is high time we move him inside.

Let his "non-stop" motor and "leadership" work from there.

I'd prefer he take the Kelley Moore approach and just become a positional coach. He's technically sound, but not a good player.

We can now keep him inside

Makes sense to be part of a rotation with Irving and Collins at DT.

But with the addition of Ward, we're starting to get a real rotation of athletic 295-305 pounders. Lewis Neal. Brian Price. Datone Jones. Interior rushmen. If a few of those come on, maybe we think about moving on from Crawford.

While Crawford's contract blows, much of that is water under the bridge. His cap hit is only 6mil. Not bad. He's good insurance for a lot of positions. Other guys are going to have to play him off the team.

Crawford is a solid, efficient, and boring right end, but he gets the job done there. Sets the edge well and stuffs the run, and gets more pressure than the four sacks last year indicate.

With Maliek Collins, David Irving, Datone Jones, the immortal Brian Price, and now Jihad Ward at tackle, I don't think Crawford needs to kick back inside unless there's an injury. But that's just my opinion.
We have a ton of players that do the same thing.

Crawford can play in rotation as our "next best" lineman at 3 positions. It's unclear that Taco even beats him out as starter at RDE yet. But if he's not starting at RDE, he'll have snaps to spare for the DT rotation.

He’s been a solid player
He’s been over paid but most players who get a second contract are over paid
But he’s getting close to the end, he’s had nagging injuries and if he’s inside it’s much tougher on the body
Hopefully ward can develope but in two years he’s really don’t nothing at all

I was thinking this same thing today. But I'm sure for different reasons.

Crawford hasn't been a great fit here in the 4-3. I really like him and he's given his all for us. Moving all around the line.

But if we could find a 3-4 team, I think he is starting quality. His contract is really reasonable for a starting 3-4 end.

Id look to trade him for a safety. Not sure how many 3-4 teams out there have a safety that they'd be willing to part with. Maybe someone who is a starter with a larger contract but has a very good backup on a cheaper deal.

But I'm also not opposed to keeping him another year. Tell him he will be strictly a DT now and let him bulk up. You limit his snaps so he doesn't take the pounding and he can be very productive.

Yeah it is hyperbole. He generates pressure and stops the run. Would you like better? Sure and between Taco and Irving we have a good shot.

You just have an unrealistic expectation of DE production and act like anything less than Cameron Wake is crap.

Hankins is only 26...any reason he isn't signed yet? I mean he was great in a 4-3 and struggled as a NT in Indy....so why is he still unsigned? Injury issues or asking too much?

Would love to have him at the right price along with Bowman

I don't hate Crawford @ DE, but I think he has more impact @ DT.

There'll be no shortage of competition on the DL this year and that's as it should be. May the best man win! It's Crawford vs. Ward in a battle to the finish. Who knows what'll happen? It's not exactly like the battle of the Titans, to be sure! Nevertheless, somebody has to win and somebody has to lose. ;)

A team playing a player like Crawford full time at RDE is a loser and is not getting a world title. Find me a similar construct on any four man line and I might buy into your nonsense.

I would like to move him off the team but since that won’t happen. Aybe next year dump him and his contract, draft a DT finally since Rod should be gone too. Well hopefully.

Saints have with Rankins. Pats have at various times over the years with guys like Sheard. Tampa Bay back when they were winning super bowls started Greg Spires using this same front. i do like how you put it on me to disprove your assertions. You didn't used to be this self important.

Frankly your position is ignorant and demonstrates a misconceived hidebound lack of imagination.
