Can we get a first rounder if we trade Dak?

Wondering if someone will give us a 1st rounder for Dak . Given the protracted negociation with our overrated entitled QB . This would give us a fresh start and we may land a good QB like a Justin Herbert or deal for another veteran , Thoughts ?

We gave a first for a year and a half rental of Cooper. There's a sucker born every minute.

Of course we could ...

but, since he hasn’t signed his franchise sheet, we can’t do anything at all. He’s still a free agent, but we have exclusive rights currently

We could still talk to other teams, and arrange a sign and trade.

We *should* in fact at least be shopping Dak to see what other teams offer. Due diligence. There's no reason to be married to Dak, particularly if you just can't agree on compensation.

The problem with our negotiating is that Jerry and Stephen have taken moving Dak off the table. Then the only question is "How much?", and Dak's only answer will be "More!"

Yeah...but Chad came from the same personality tribe as Jeff George, Akili Smith and Joe Flacco

Only difference Chad Hutchinson could not start or play QB in NFL
Jeff was very great quarterback his team was not that great

Wins and losses are team stats, not QB stats.
1-6 against winning teams while looking totally lost . Against the packers he could not even help score 1 touchdown at home for an entire half . Despite having the top OL , RB , WR . Same issues against Vikings , bills , NO , England etc . We have seen enough to know he is not accurate and flat out mediocre .

No teams in the NFL shop their franchise QB unless they are at a complete impasse and have no choice

the last time I can recall a franchise QB being traded was maybe Carson Palmer or McNabb to thr Commanders a decade ago.

You don’t just casually start calling around trying to “get a feel” for the market. You don’t hook up on Tinder when you’re trying to get your girlfriend to say yes to your marriage proposal.

That’s stuff that happens in Madden and on message boards for the most part.

We’re a year away from Dak or the Cowboys pressing the issue to the point where this conversation could even happen.

How can you call Dak a winner? What's he won a "Thanks for showing up" trophy? 8-8 in average in my book. Dak was picked by more people than not to get to the Super Bowl last year and he failed!!!!!!!!!!! Sign the dam contract that JJ put in front of your agent's face.

Because we're unlikely to get two, but we might be able to make a deal to get one.

It's not that we're unlikely to get two, the Cowboys don't want two even if they were offered. As far as I know they're using the exclusive franchise tag on Dak. That means no other team can talk to him. That means they don't even want to risk losing him even for the two first rounders.

The only way to findout is to put the transition tag on him. That is what they should do.

This is a great point. He is exclusive to the Cowboys. That’s one of the things many posters just don’t get. Trading franchise QB’s, especially with the tag, is incredibly difficult.

The only conceivable scenario where Dak could be traded looks something like this
  1. Dak signs his exclusive franchise tag tender. Until he does, he cannot be traded
  2. Cowboys find a trade partner and determine compensation
  3. Said team must be willing to take the chance Dak will sign a long term contract with them before July 15th which is the deadline for negotiations.
  4. Cowboys then give Dak’s agent permission to negotiate a long term contract with the new Team. It better be another team willing to make him three highest paid player in the NFL
  5. If all th threw parties are in agreement, then we have a deal.
  6. If this trade happens after July 15, The new team brings Dak on under the tag and can’t negotiate a long term deal until next off season. At that point, the contract becomes even more enormous because that is the year Mahomes and Watson are up for new deals. This post July 15th scenario is virtually impossible as no team would ever spend multiple firsts to rent a QB for one year

That you assume that teams don't do this doesn't mean they don't and it doesn't mean they can't.

But for dead money, which doesn't apply at all with Dak, all players can be traded.

I'd make the call, and teams would answer the phone.

Too late for that. They already put the exclusive tag on him.

There are a bunch of reasons why QB’s always get the exclusive tag, the main one being they, you know, actually want the player.

This isn’t a situation where you just put some blood bait on your line and hope a big ‘ol catfish swims up from the bottom to take the hook.

People keep talking about dak signing his franchise tender..of course he has to sign it to trade him

Any team that is going to trade for him is going to sign him..the franchise tender is basically irrelevant..if a team can't agree w him on a deal, there is no trade w Dallas anyways

Yes. Dallas would get a first. Probably a high first..

hey...it'll be another 30 years before you scousers sniff a title. It gives me joy beyond words knowing the year you guys are actually going to win a premier league and it gets voided...hahahahahaha.

20 times, 20 times Man United,

20 times 20 times I say,

20 times 20 times Man United,

Playing football the Busby way.

oh wrong forum for this. oops. Go Cowboys.

Doesn't mean they aren't interested in a trade for Dak. Maybe they just don't want to risk getting two *late* first round picks.

Good post. I was unaware of #6. But I guess that makes sense. So if a team already had a player under the tag they couldn't trade for Dak after July 15th? Or is that little detail overlooked?

But my main point was, if Dallas was open to the possibility of trading Dak he would have been tagged non exclusive.

Are you stupid?

How many times does your 1-6 stat need to be corrected before it gets through your thick, empty skull?

We beat the Eagles and Rams last year. That’s TWO winning teams we beat.

You’ve been corrected on this several times. Why do you keep repeating inaccurate garbage?
