Hire Norv as basically a OC but give his a different name so it is concedered a promotion if we sign a Defensive minded HC.

The only option I would see would be to name him Asst. Head Coach.. if he don't have that title at SF. Other than that.. its HC or nothing for Norv.

can anyone confirm his position with the SF49ers

I don't think so. I remember BP talking about the Payton situation and saying that all assistants are treated the same now. Title did not matter because teams were making up titles to bypass the rule.

In other words, anything other than HC was considered a lateral move and the team had the right to deny the interview.

That would mean you can forget about Singletary or Norv as anything other than HC.

Rex for HC and Norv for Assistant HC/OC

Correct.

Singletary is LB coach he can become DC.

we'd have to demote Sparano in that case.

sure. let's hire the OC and the DC and THEN the head coach.

we hire the head coach first people.

Singletary is also Assistant Head Coach. Pretty sure he would need to be named a HC.

This should clear it up

I believe that the new rule is that, unless it is for a potential promotion to the HC position, you cannot interview without permission from the team that the person is under contract to. This was put into effect to get rid of the bums that kept trying to circumvent the system by adding "assistant HC" to the titles when they were basically hiring the coordinator for what was essentially the same position they had on their existing teams, but better pay.
