Can we play any style of game?

We have a great offense, we score lots of points. But can we play different styles of football, if a game calls for it?

I would like for us to come out Sunday against Washington with a smashmouth mentallity. I dont mean get guys hurt, but I think we have been a finesse offense all year. I want to come out, run the ball, and play good defense. It can only help us in the playoffs if we can change our style of play if the game deems it necessary. It's the playoffs so what teams did in the regular season doesnt matter. Two powerhouses could be locked in a 17-17 game with 4 minutes to go, or a defensive oriented team can be blowing someone out 28-0. I just want us to be prepared for any game possible. What happened in the regular season doesnt matter.

I'm not saying we need to change our offense or anything, I just would like to see us create a slower paced game and see if we can win a game feeding Julius the rock, and letting our defense make plays.
Now obviously if we start falling behind, then change it up. I just think the more ways we can play football, be it a finesse style like we've been doing this year, or pounding the ball, or playing great defense by creating turnovers/sacks or forcing punts...I like our chances more. And maybe with it being the last game we wont be so aggressive and kind of get a "playoff attitude" that you often hear about warmed up.

Thoughts???

The o-line isn't really adept at runblocking (not til the defense gets tired anyway) to pound the ball early on constantly. They will run to keep the defense honest though...

I think a slower paced game actually hurts the Cowboys.

Teams play that way to keep your offense OFF the field.
Long drives are not typical for any team, but when you have weapons like TO you have to at least try to utilize him to his potential.

T.O. is out for the game dude.

That's my point. I want to learn how in this game, so we can be able to in the playoffs where it matters (if need be)

I realize he is out, I am speaking in general.

Let's not pretend that TO and Glenn are up and coming guys. They are headed towards the end. Playing the offense that makes you successful is more important right now.

Say TO isn't ready 2-3 weeks from now, wouldn't you feel much more comfortable knowing that one of the young guys can come in and make an impact playing the same plays ?

In the playoffs you still have to play your game. When you fold to their game ...most times you lose.

I'm not saying fold to an opponents game. While T.O. is out and Witten/ Glenn are not having very expanded roles come Sunday I trust Julius Jones on offense and Kevin Burnett, Anthony Spencer, Tank Johnson, Jacques Reeves more than I do Miles Austin Sam Hurd or Isiah Stanbeck (although I do want to see him play)

I just want the team to be able to play in different situations. The more a team is able to adapt and play a variety of ways, they become a lot tougher to beat.

That and I want to see Julius have one more blow up game before he goes to another team this offseason. I know he has it left in him.

How many times do you see the Pats in a shootout ? It's not their game.
How many times do you see the Steelers get blown out ? Same thing.

I know what you mean though, you want to be a well rounded team that can adapt, but the whole point is to establish your game plan and dominate with that.

Most times (especially in this era of football) that is not even possible because o the lack of depth and experience on BOTH sides of the ball.

You kidding me? The Pats were in a shoot out with us, and then they go and win a defensive battle against the Jets in crappy weather.

The Steelers got blown out by the Pats 31-13. And they won by 3 over the Dolphins, yet 41-24 shootout this past week with the Rams.

While I think the Cowboys are better than the Steelers, the Steelers have played in different styles of games, which may come in handy come playoffs. And the Pats can play any way possible. They've shown that. Although they may be beat with a solid run game and short intermediate passes, along with bend dont break defense that takes away the long ball.

Personally, I hope Romo airs it out with Glenn, Crayton, Austin, Hurd and a bit of Stanback. We can still get it done - well, for the 1st half at least while Romo is still playing.

Also, I love for Witten to get the NFL reception record for TEs in a single season.

I also think it's a great opportunity for Garrett to try to implement different packages and formations, etc.

That said, I think the 2nd half JJ gets a bunch of carries.

Glenn maybe... but take TO outta your mouth on that one.

Doesnt TO have more completions and TD's than your entire roster of WR's over the past 2 seasons? :lmao2:

Parcells taught our players how to play the tough, grind it out, fight for every inch games.

We can play nail biters, We can play in weather, we can play with all odds against us.

We are a very versatile team.
