He is a lot better. Samuel is a great cornerback, that stays on the field. Also can play the ball in the air really well.

Newman when healthy is a solid cornerback, but he hasn't been healthy much of his career here. Even when he plays he's still kinda banged up. And had we beaten the Eagles, we wouldn't have had him for the playoffs. He got hurt in that game as well.

Interesting. So because he's human and not perfect that means he doesn't make plays in big games?

Didn't I see them say yesterday that he's now got the record for most INT's returned for TD's in the playoffs for a career?

Last I checked playoff games are big games which I can only guess means he makes more big plays than he misses out on.

Now all that is not to say that I think he's a better corner than Newman, cause I don't. I'm a big TNew fan. I think Newman is the much better corner but Samuel is the much better playmaker.

To me stopping receptions is making plays. They don't make BSPN but they do count. And samual has given up amore TDs then he has made plays so what is so great about that?
And cannot believe anyone is so ignorant to say Newman has been injured MUCH OF HIS CAREER HERE. Up untill 2007 as I recall he had not missed agame. In his first 4 years. He has missed some the last two of course- but to try and paint him as having an injury plagued career is TRULY IGNORANT.

He has scored 2 TDs in his entire career here in Dallas.

He played all 16 for his first four years.

But. He's 30. And the past 3 seasons he has gone from 16 games, to 13 games, and 10 games this year.

This isn't a good pattern, especially for a guy getting up there in age. The ankle injury would've side-lined him as well.

Asante Samuel returned his 4th interception for a td in the postseason yesterday which is an NFL record.

I think Newman is one of those guys we tend to over rate...he's solid...but he's not a great corner. Great corners come up big in big spots. Newman doesn't do that.

Think of a guy like Kevin Smith. That was a guy who came up big in big games.

On top of that, I think Newman talks too much, especially after coming up small in games. For example, both after Pittsburgh and Philly, he came small in key moments and then shoots his mouth off in Media.

Newman is a good guy, but I just don't see that great CB in him, that he thinks he is. He is a very good CB, no doubt, but somehow doesn't always show up in big games. But then thats been the story of many of current cowboys though.

A defense that got 60 sacks should've gotten a whole hell of a lot more than 11 interceptions.

It helps to turn your head to the ball, our guys refuse to do that.

I dont know about this one. First of all that pick yesterday, any corner could have made that play. Jackson threw that ball late to the sideline and he threw it inside and not to the outside like it should have been thrown. He made the play, I will give him that, but lets not put him in the hall of fame!!

Samuels is good, but so is Newman. Lets just leave it at that. Does anyone have that stats from this year on how many times qb's threw at Newman and Samuels and who had the better stats?

I'd take Newman in his prime over Assante anyday..

Indeed. I'll one up you.

I would take Terence Newman over Deion Sanders. Wade Phillips has raised his pick total, and he will get even more next year. He had 4 in his last 7 games this year after the operation, and he should have picked off 5.

Newman is the best slot defender in the NFL. Sanders never lived inside or covered tight-ends like Clark or Shockey. Newman has the skins on the wall to prove it. Sanders just told the coaches that he'd stay by the sidelines and take care of his guy. Newman can play man or zone, and he does what the coaches want him to do. Sanders didn't like chasing all those crossing routes in space, and he didn't like playing zone. Heck, he wouldn't even go to the huddle. Sanders wasn't a good example to young players like Scandrick and Jenkins. What a role model he was in the meetings.

Kevin Smith or Pup was better than Tnew hands down.

Tnew blew the long 3rd and long pass vs the Steelers which was a backbreaker and he also played like crap vs a rookie wr on the Eagles, not that we would have won that game anyway.

He rarely looks for the ball and is not much of a playmaker, although he did jump a couple of routes this yr to either break up a pass or intercept it...something he has not really done before.

Idiots abound here. But then most are either stupid or so called fans who have not watched more then this and last year. See I remember a rookie Newman taking Steve Smith out of a game. I remember Newman doing that to other top wrs. But then that is the way it is.
