Cedric Benson injured his shoulder Friday night and had to leave the Bears' practice field on a cart.

Benson will undergo X-rays Saturday morning to determine the extent of the injury. With Thomas Jones (hamstring) due back next week, even a mild injury could give Jones a chance to regain his stance with the first team. ProFootballTalk.com speculates that Bears defenders have been hitting Benson especially hard to show their support for Jones.

Yeah this is a flat out joke. I hope this kind of crap never makes it's way to the Cowboys.

Cedric Benson is the most overated player since Ron Dayne.

It is unbelievable to me that the Bears would put him, let alone draft him, when they have a potential top 5 back on their team in Thomas Jones.

I think it's dumb to draft a back in the top-10 when you have a 1300-yard rusher in his prime already on your roster. But it takes a bunch of idiots to intentionally try to hurt a teammate.

My roommate is a big Bears fan. Let's just say that if you follow the team at all, with GM Jerry Angelo involved it's not surprising that he would push for Benson to start and the team would revolt against it.

I don't know if I'd agree that he's THAT overated (comparing him to Dayne is pretty harsh) but I thought he was drafted WAY too high and that he'd likely be a bust (considering where he was drafted).

Even with him going to a team that he fits rather well, he's still gonna bust (IMO).

He won't be as big a bust as the guy trying to take his job though.

Probably was a little harsh... :)

I just called this one from the outset, Benson never impressed me at Texas.

Jones has showed me he has elite ability. Why they would put Benson in front of Jones without him earning it, is beyond me.

Jones deserves to be their starter. He was getting the shaft by losing the starting job, when he's proved that it should be his.

One 1000 yard season out of 6 and he's suddenly a "potential top 5 back"? Dude was average or worse his first 4-5 seasons.

UPDATE: Cedric Benson (shoulder) is reportedly expected to miss at least two weeks of practice.

That Benson has been targeted by Bears defenders in practice seems to be the theory of consensus. Saturday morning's X-ray results should provide a better read on the seriousness of Benson's injury.

IN his first 3 seasons, he was with the putrid arizone cardinals, and wasnt even starting.

in his nxt season with the tampa bay, he was behind Pittman and Allsot

then in his first season with the bers he almost hit 1000 starting only 14 games, in his first season with more than 5 starts

Then in the following season he hit 1300, so again, they had a potential top back, im not gonna say top 5, because that belongs to MBIII, JJ, Tyson, Summers, and Lou

Pro Football talk said it so it must be true.

They haven't been wrong yet, have they? hehe

Other reports said the hit looked average and nothing malicious. Guess this thread is useless w/o vids ;)

They are probably all against Benson because his name rhymes with Henson to hear some around here tell it.

Benson was hardly even touched on the play he was injured. Watching the replay, it amazes me that he actually got hurt on it. Either way, I like Thomas Jones and dislike Ricky Williams2 so hopefully TJ will get in and reclaim his rightful job.

Difficult for me to believe that anybody who watched Benson at Texas could be unimpressed. I guess everybody sees things different.

I believe that Jones still has some things to prove but if he has won his team over, then it's up to Benson to win that job and eventually sway. It is unfortunate that he has not had more success but hey, that's the game. It's not for the weak in spirit, mind or body. It also takes a good deal of heart. If the team is taking cheap shots on players, then it's up to the coaching staff to protect the players. If it's just good tough hitting, then that's part of the game.

Jones is a competitor too. He gets paid and makes his living playing football too. You can't figure he is just going to role over. It's his job. Benson has to win it and you can't do that from the training room.

Win the position, win some games, and things will come around.

Curtis Enis part II. Rashan Salaam part II.

Did they at least hand him his bong to ease the pain?

Benson is a first rate turd anyways. He robs the Bears for more money, misses camp, does nothing, gets hurt actually shows up to camp and gets hurt again. Yea, this kids got a bright future.
