not sure what the rule is. he is currently the secondary coach in new england.

he could be our DC.

IDK i don't want anyone from NE though their coaches and players don't do much once they leave.....

For those clamoring for Cowher here---this would likely be his DC, given their history in Pittsburgh and the fact that he would keep the 3-4 in place.

Yeah I don't think we can get Capers at this point. That would have to come in the offseason, I believe.

Any midseason coaching changes would only involve moving someone up from within.

wouldnt we have to give up a pick for him or something?

He's currently DB coach in NE-so IF we hire him as DC, then it wouldn't be a lateral move. So no, no picks given up.

If Jerry was to hire Cowher I'd rather his DC be LeBeau but I could live with Capers also.

LeBeau rocks, plus he looks like Earnest so we could have photoshop fun with him.:D But as you said, if we could not get him, whether we get cowher or not, capers would be ok.

Still chaps my backside that we did not hire him because we were afraid of hurting Stewart's feelings...maybe that was what he was thinking when he was confused and pouting on the bench yesterday.

Capers was Cowher's DC when Cowher was first hired in Pitt, FWIW. Then, of course, Capers went to Carolina to be their HC afterwards.

And his first name is Dick, that's endless possiblities too.
I still wonder why he wasn't hired in the off season.

Yeap but I just like LeBeau's attacking style

Has anyone checked Capers' record as a DC? Anyone?

Why does this keep getting repeated as if he's some guru? Because he's not.

Call him now!! This D needs a kick in the butt and what better way to do it than with a new coach!!

This guy has brought nothing but horrible defenses to the field in Houston and then in Miami. And the secondary he coaches in New England is absolutely horrible.

If Garrett hires a new DC next year, I hope we go with someone young and ambitious to make a name for himself. Let's find our own Steve Spagnuolo, not someone who's just counting down the days until retirement and is so happy to have another job he'll let Jerry shove Campo down his throat.

Can you repeat that about a billion times so maybe people will get it?

Not saying that Capers' Ds did not suck in Houston or Miami_but there was not much talent at either of those clubs when he was there. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken .....

Capers did have early success with some terriffic defenses w/the Saints (Dome Patrol), Steelers, Panthers and the Jags. His D's were known for bringing blitzes from anywhere and everywhere. His secondaries were always solid to better than solid, but he was able to bring the heat w/his front 7 (primarily his LBs) w/out sacrificing coverage. He was definitely the godfather of the zone blitz.

It is possible that Capers, like Parcells, has shot his wad and is no longer an elite D coach. But even if he had half his brain tore out through his nose, he would still know more about coaching secondaries and the 3-4 than Stewart, Grantham, Campo & Maxie combined.
