Can,Will the Coaches use their Budding Stars correctly?

Over the years, I've felt several young players talent was wasted on the bench. Coaches not finding enough playing time so they could demonstrate these talents. Eventually the players possibly became disenchanted or whatever and moved on when their contract was up. In some cases they became very productive players with other teams--M. Bennett.

More currently-2012- examples are KO continually under performing while D. Harris languished on the bench. Usually the fan base thinks they know so much more than the coaches and in this case it appears they did. They were calling for KOs ouster many weeks before the Coaches actually made the switch--wasted time, might have meant another victory over that time. Also, last year Hanna had a lot more to offer than the Coaches gave him credit for. To some extent the Free/Parnell situation can be considered similar to the KO/Harris situation. If a player is under performing terribly move him out and try something else. In many cases the coaches were like the white laboratory rats that kept going through door number 1 and getting hit over the head. Instead of trying door number 2 or 3 they went back through door number 1 and you guessed it got clocked in the head again and again and again.

Now this year presents more players that need to be used in order to maximize their talents. Some are--Hanna,Escobar,Beasley,Parnell,Wilcox,Webb,T. Williams, etc. I just hope Callahan can not only improve the play calling, clock management but also the complete use of the talent he has on this team. Great talent does the team no good setting on the bench.

Your thoughts.

Your examples are terrible.

Bennett didn't go on to be very productive. He had a good year, but not a great one. He also didn't stick around with the Giants. You forget that Bennett was injured most of his final season in Dallas. That did more to hold him back than anything the coaches did. He was productive as far as backup tight ends go while in Dallas. People kept thinking he would get 50 or 60 catches a season, but those were always unreasonable expectations. The second tight end does not get that many opportunities unless they are in New England.

Harris wasn't languishing on the bench. He was learning. He was a 2nd year guy still learning the nuances of the NFL game. It takes time.

Hanna as well was still a very raw product. There was little he could truly do early in the season. They were able to use him later in the year after he was given some time to acclimate to the pros.

The expectations placed upon some of these young guys is always overestimated. Some were thinking Beasley would light it up as a rookie. He just wasn't ready. He is often compared to Wes Welker and Danny Amendola. Those guys weren't ready their rookie years, either. It took them until their third pro seasons to really start contributing. Beasley is ahead of that schedule because the coaches were able to get something out of him later in the season. They didn't push something early in the year because he wasn't ready yet.

The rebuttal is right on in my book. You're assuming in your examples that each player is NFL ready in any situation, which is rarely the case. Sometimes good coaching means playing young players in limited situations where they can taste success as opposed to just throwing them to the wolves and exposing their weaknesses or worse, breaking their confidence.

Your title refers to budding stars. Are Harris, Bennett, Parnell and Hanna budding stars or middle to late round draft picks who are more likely to be role players in the NFL?

Actually joseephuss' response is on the spot. M. Bennett was without a doubt a bad example. He was only productive because he became a starter, which obviously led to more opportunities and with that, one should be more productive. Bennett would never be a starter with Cowboys because of Witten.

I completely agree with rest of joseephuss' response.

And we don't know yet if they are budding stars or bust. Time will tell.
