Q: I think it's obvious Jason Garrett will eventually be the next head coach of the Cowboys. At the same time, I really like Wade Phillips and his coaching style. What are the chances he would agree to being the Cowboys' defensive coordinator so that Garrett could begin his career as head coach/offensive coordinator of the Cowboys in the next two years?

TAYLOR: I could never see a scenario like that happening. Wade might be a nice guy, but he does have some personal pride. He's not going to give up a job that he thinks he does very well for a guy who has never been a head coach and then be the defensive coordinator. Frankly, it wouldn't even be fair ask him to do it.

I could Wade calling his dad and telling him Jerry asked him to do this and then Bum Phillips driving to Valley Ranch to beat up Jerry, lol.

After winning the SB, Wade decides go out on top and retire. He makes this decision partly for all the obvious reasons, but also because he understands the unique situation he's in with Garrett on the staff.

Jerry comes back and offers him the DC position.

And then Wade turns it down and goes and retires like he was doing in the first place. :laugh2: I'm sure a guy is not going to win the superbowl, decide he's going out on top, and then accept the defensive coordinator position to stick around when he could have just remained the head coach if he didn't decide to retire.

Yep, the key is having some time in between.

Dave Campo goes from head coach to one of the secondary coaches. In 5 more years, he'll be Rowdy.

In plenty of articles I have read, Jerry and his wife are often out enjoying the town with Wade and his wife. They seem to have a pretty strong relationship, so the idea that Jerry would simply throw Wade to the curb like that is a pretty far stretch.

If Wade wins the SB he has earned the right to go for the repeat

It's infinitely more likely that if Wade sticks around, he does so in a front office or consultant capacity like Scotty Bowman with the Detroit Red Wings.

I think the Chiefs had an excellent draft this year
