Just a little history lesson. I found an old archive of when Jerry hired Jimmy Johnson. Yes back then Jimmy hired his own staff vs now a days where Jerry insists on hiring the position coaches and coordinators for his head coach.

This is like Jerry buying a tech company and deciding who will be on the AI team. It's why nobody is shocked by what's happening to the cowboys now.

DALLAS -- Miami Hurricane Coach Jimmy Johnson flew to Dallas Friday amidst increasing speculation he was about to replace Tom Landry as coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

A swiftly moving chain of events indicated the Cowboys could be sold as early as Saturday and that the likely new owner -- Arkansas oilman Jerry Jones -- would replace Landry, the only coach the team has ever had and the third winningest coach in NFL history.

Johnson met Friday with Jones and current Cowboys owner H.R. 'Bum' Bright. Johnson and Jones were teammates on the University of Arkansas' unbeaten 1964 team.

One area television station reported Johnson had already submitted his resignation to the University of Miami and had already decided on four assistant coaches: Hubbard Alexander, Tony Wise, Dave Wannstedt and Butch Davis -- all from the Hurricane staff.

In addition, the Tampa Tribune Friday quoted an unnamed source as saying Johnson had told a group of Miami boosters last week he would soon be coaching the Cowboys and planned to take his entire Miami staff with him.

The staff was already assembled when Barry Switzer came here and the unfortunate thing is one of those guys should have gotten the job instead. Butch Davis was still here.

Imagine us signing a new coach, and him being told that in order to be here you more than likely have to listen to what our QB says, and a few of his coaches has to stay, AND we're going to keep some of the offense because it's what's going to make him play well

Why any competent coach would want to come here is beyond me. Especially when you are force fed your assistant coaching staff. But ole Jerhro don’t like paying coaches not to coach this the reason. Daddy needs a new yacht.

MM did bring in his own staff with the exception of Moore.

He interviewed any current coaches and decided to retain them of not.

That explains a lot about the last 30 years.

The 90's team would be doing this....

Troy would be screaming to put Guyton in at RT and to get a RB in here. Great QBs do more than just play on Sunday, they lead the team. Also Michael Irvin and Haley would be tearing this place apart and beating on any slacking players. They wanted to win more than garner a large paycheck.

No smiling during losses. Jimmy didn't even let them eat on the plane after a loss.

This is what Jimmy did...see below. Does this sound like Jerry's Cowboys.

In all fairness McCarthy did bring in most of his own staff. The ones that were retained were interviewed and approved by McCarthy such as Moore and Lett. New head coaches of other teams don't necessarily remove all coaches just for the sake of personnel staff control appearances.

Football coaches have huuuuuge egos and most would jump at the chance and not cower.

Moore was a HUGE exception. Also, I don’t believe for one Minute he hired Zimmer. He may like Zimmer, but Jerry and Stephen hired Zimmer. McCarthy just signed off on it.

Kellen Moore on Mike, I don't think a coach since Jimmy as brought in their own staff without Jerry sticking his nose in.
Parcells and you immediately saw the results. With a poor roster.

I was talking about his original staff. He also was the biggest influence on Moore leaving. And any other change, such as firing Nolan and bringing in Quinn. That had to be hard for Jerry to do. I believe Jerry wanted to go the way of Garrett, and have Moore as the next HC after MM.

Zimmer, yes agree, that was probably more on Jerry. However MM probably had some input, though not much or the final say.

When Jerry bought the Cowboys, he was fresh out of the oil business and zero experience. He didn't know anyone. He HAD to rely of Jimmy and Jimmy's football connections to hire a staff.

I'm starting to wonder if McCarthy actually wanted Nolan as his DC in 2020. Was listening to a longtime NFL writer(maybe Mike Silver?) on NFL radio discuss how Nolan and McCarthy haven't had a good relationship since they parted ways in SF back in 2007. He blames McCarthy for SF's decision to draft Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers, and according to this writer, Nolan felt McCarthy did not deserve the GB Head Coaching job based on his performance in SF.

Will never happen here. Jerry won't fire coaches under contract to make this happen.

2007: Jason Garrett named offensive coordinator. Jerry Jones NFL experience? 18 years.

2019: Kellen Moore named offensive coordinator. Jerry Jones NFL experience? 30 years.

Respectfully, I do not think the amount of experience is Jerry Jones' problem. I believe any NFL experience does not alter his mindset. Jones would have hired a general manager no later than 2003 if it had.
