Can you provide a statistical analysis of the Vikings defense?

I was just wondering if someone could break down their strength and weaknesses in terms of stats, personnel and schematics. I want to get a better understanding of what I should be looking for during the game. Thanks in advance.

...the most important thing to look for EARLY is Adams ability to deal with Jared Allen...if Dallas can neutralize him their chances improve...Barber is gimpy and it may prove a better deal when facing Kevin and Pat Williams in the middle...if you watched the Carolina game, Stewart hit the gaps quickly and was pretty effective on the edge as well...Jones and Choice usually hit pretty quick...we all know that while Barber has been good this year, he has been hesitant much too often...losing starting MLB E.J. Henderson was huge for Minnesota's run defense...they miss him...

...a 27th ranked defensive passer rating is all you need to know about a secondary featuring a gimpy Antoine Winfield [their best corner]...he has'nt been right since his injury this year but they are looking to move him around on sunday...Minnesota does'nt blitz a lot and if they can't get pressure with their front four then the secondary becomes a point of major concern...Brinkley their linebacker is often matched up on a TE and as most linebackers go can't always close the deal...Witten and Phillips could benefit here...Arizona, Carolina and Chicago really exposed Minnesota's secondary...

...the matchup to fear as far as Dallas is concerned is Percy Harvin against a slot cornerback, which would obviously be Orlando Scandrick...i do think that McBriar and Beuhler can neutralize him in the kicking game but they'll look to get this guy going because he is very explosive...we all know Favre's affinity for the quick-slant...i think that they can "control" Rice but he will get his catches...if Dallas can force them to keep the TE [Shiancoe] at the line to block then that's one less headache for the secondary to worry about...Berrian and Lewis then become the x-factors...first order of business is Rice and Harvin...take your chances with the rest of the receiving corp...

...Adrian Peterson...dangerous...though the offensive line has'nt run-blocked particulary well since the Cardinals game...Ratliff against Sullivan could be the key to their running game being effective and if it's not then there could be trouble...Keith and Brady have got their work cut out for them, as does Ware and Spencer, because it is likely they will want to try an wear them both down to cool off the pass rush...and then there's Chester Taylor who's underrated...both these guys run and receive well...they both have over 40 receptions this year...the only knock is Peterson's tendency to fumble at inopportune times...Dallas' front seven should seek to help him out in that area, particularly, Spencer and Ware, who both like to strip...Favre will be content with the short, quick passing game to move the ball, unlike Philadelphia's big-play, feast or famine offense...he's more patient than in years past...

...i don't like to throw a blanket on some of the fire on the boards this week but this a very dangerous offense that Dallas will face on the road...the best they've faced all year...the strength of Minnesota is its offense...the defensive line is good but if the offense comes out cold like it did at times down the stretch then they'll kill the home crowd...if Dallas can start fast like they did against New Orleans then i like their chances...

Kram: That's a tough act to follow. Nicely done.

I would only add two notes. Unlike a Phildelphia defense, don't expect MN to blitz. Their front four is so effective they are usually able to get pressure and stop the run while keeping everyone else at home.

The front line is cracking of late as they allowed their two 100 yard rushers (first since Nov 2007) within the last few weeks.

Also, a big difference in the 3 of 4 games they dropped were from very poor tackling. With Antoine Winfield rested, look for him to set the tone on defense. Arguably, he is their best defender and sometimes the defense goes as he goes.

Yes.

They wear purple or white jerseys, and there's eleven of them at any given time.

Well here is something interesting... There defensive backs havn't just struggled they have given up HUGE games recently.

Panthers : Steve Smith put up 9 catches 157 yards and a td
Arizona: Larry Fitzgerald put up 8 catches 143 yards and a td, Boldin had 7 for 98 and 2 tds
Chicago: Devin Aromashadu(who?) had 7 catches for 150 yards and a td.

Matt Moore and Jay Cutler picked this defense apart, there is absolutely no reason why Dallas shouldn't.

That's an encouraging statistical perspective.
