Y'all hear of this yet?

Here is the upshot:

Basically, a defensive player had to do two things to get penalized in the past: Throw a player down AND land on top of them with most of their body weight. However, with the new rule, they'll be flagged if they throw a player down OR land on top of them with most of their body weight.

Where was this concern when it took Romo out multiple times?

How on earth does a ref reliably make this call correctly several times a game?

QBs gonna look for a flag every time they go down now, just to see if they get benefit of the doubt.

I get the rule in principle, as defenders do have a habit of standing up using offensive players on the ground, especially in a 2 minute drill.

But in reality, it's just going to be more roughing the passer BS.

If the Vikings get another opportunity to take out Rodgers this season, now it'll cost them a 15 yard penalty.

That should dissuade them.
You don't think the league would levy a hefty fine at whichever player takes out a top-tier starting QB? After the first fine, it might dissuade a lot of players not named "Burfict".

Good post, "the Weiner shaped meat tube" & my friend of fandom fellowship:thumbup:

That pile drive collar bone break on #9 up in N.Y. that one time(or was it Philly?,,,,,, hell, they all, each& every one of them, got away with it ,as long as it was on #9) was vindictively carried out with obvious intent to impart maximum crush factor ,,,
( I'm not saying that Bass Turd who free falled with arms& legs pulled out ,so as to not make contact with the turf deserves a razor edged commando fighting knife slid up his coolio out on the sidewalk some day in his retirement years, but, him& his ilk are worthy of it:mad:),,,its a little to late, but timely ,seeing how our DEFENCE is apparently fixing to don 'war paint'o_O

I'm nearing the point where I'd rather they just make the switch to "just wrap up or knock over the QB" and be done with it.

Eventually QBs will be totally safe and it'll be a different game. There's no fighting it, just accept it, the sport is evolving. Less violent doesn't have to mean less competitive. But it can't be competitive if it's just ref ball.

My issue is with this middle ground, death by a thousand cuts for the old NFL. One day it'll be one thing and it used to be another thing and for now we're caught in this purgatory where refs are told to make a violent game safe through increasing numbers of flags.

In a nutshell:

Stop making me watch ref ball, I'd rather lose traditional sacks than see more and more ref ball.

This is getting ridiculous with this leauge. Im watching the cowboys this year and that's it. Next year once im fuming about this call biting us during the play offs i will be mad and pout but ill be back....guys my name is Adrian and im addicted to cowboys football....

Kind of losing my interest for the nfl as of late and bad football is a huge reason for that. Nobody wants to watch flags and calls all game. A qb getting blasted is just part of the game. I don't know anymore. Whatever I guess.
