yeah haven't heard much about him. not neccessarily a bad thing. at least we know he's not doing anything bad.

Other quiet players: Roy, Aaron Glenn, DeMarcus, Kyle Kosier, Keith Davis...

That's the thing about 3-4 DE's, it's the wrong profession to be in if you are a prima donna because there's not much fanfare in it. Unless your name happens to be Richard Seymour your life is one lived in realitive obscurity until you screw up or can't hold down the fort there.

Take Aaron Smith of the Steelers for example. He's an absolutley fabulous player but outside of Pittsburgh most people who aren't diehards :) don't even know who he is. Comes with the territory. Canty has alot to prove still, but judging how that first team defense is performing against the run in preseason you know the ends are holding up well. He's doing fine.

Hey Mike...like the sig. I think he is going to make a run at the top QB in college this year with Quinn.

He has looked stout in run support, IMO. Watch the lines when our starters are in there - the opposition gets little to no push. LBs are free. He's even made some tackles in run defense.

Steve Dennis said early in camp that Canty was looking like a monster out there...

Canty is never going to be a 10 sacks a year guy. If he gets 5 consider it a good season.

The two camp practices I saw, it was striking how much bigger and stronger Canty is over the previous year. He is biggest guy we have on D with the exception of Coleman who is thicker. He looked like a man amongst boys during those practices, not just size wise, but he was around the ball all the time and got great push on oline.

I was at Seattle game as well and he played great in limited time. He shed double teams once to make a tackle. Showed amazing strength there. He also made a tackle for a loss I believe, again powering through a block and taking down a runner.

Canty is one of the guys Parcells is talking about on his 1st line D where they have only had 50 plays or so in 3 preseason games to date. Hard to stand out in some ways, but how bad could you be forcing 5 or 6 3 and outs.

He looked good, don't worry. Will end up being considered a steal in 4th round, a total steal. He still has huge upside on top of it all.

I know he had a good off-season. I'm in North Carolina and I missed the Monday night game so I knew you guys would have the skinny

Richard Seymour -- a guy who is probably the best 3-4 DE in the league has averaged about 5 sacks a year from that position

So I did a quick search of our Training Camp Zone and these are some of things I pulled up about Canty. There was a whole page I didn't go too. But it looks like he's been doing well...Not sure what you guys expect from him...

Grizz Notes
7/30
On the next play Canty stuffed the run to his side.
They went back to some full-speed 11-on11 where Singleton broke up a pass for Witten. Canty stuffed JJ then Canty beat Kosier to the QB on the next play causing Bledsoe to scramble.

8/2
I had a perfect view of the OL/DL drills today and it went like this. Flozell handled Hatcher, Canty got a good push on Kosier.

Kosier fought Canty to a draw and Hatcher finished the drill with a good speed rush against Flozell.

Crayton couldn't pull in a long, poorly thrown ball by Romo and then Hatcher and Canty busted through for a sure sack.

8/2 afternoon - Next they ran 11-on-11 against the nickel and other pass defenses.
Kenyon Coleman almost sacked Romo and Chris Canty batted the pass down on Romo's last play.

8/4-morning
during 11-on-11 - Bledsoe hit Glenn again, but once again, if it had been a real game, Canty would've planted him.

Vela
7/30-Chris Canty is huge but he didnt seem to be impressive on this day. He got stonewalled by Gurode and Rivera.

Mosley
Defensive end Chris Canty has the ability to disrupt an entire side of the offensive line. He was there to meet Julius Jones on a running play that he tried to bounce outside..

Scrimmage Notes
DC.com
So it was no surprise the offense sputtered a bit early in the scrimmage, with the first team failing to score. Greg Ellis and Chris Canty each registered a sack in the first 10 plays, though there was no live contact. Head coach Bill Parcells blew the whistle once the quarterback got touched.

Blog - Chris Canty was credited with a sack and had a good hit on Julius Jones.

Mosley
• DE Chris Canty had two sacks Saturday. The first one was a coverage sack, but on the second one, he just exploded past an offensive tackle. Canty even did a strange-looking sack dance after the second one.
Grizz
* JJ tried a run but was popped good by Canty who let out a big yell.
* Canty then got another sack but it was mainly a coverage sack as no one was open.
* Canty and Ware then beat Petitti and Procter and Canty got the sack while Petitti got flagged for holding.
* Sam Hurd caught a pass for 15-yds.
* MB3 ran to the left side for no gain as Ware and Canty were there.

He's received way too much hype. Quit calling him a "steal" unless he performs consistently.

Yes ... if I am forced to read one more article about Canty I might go insane.

Canty only has one good eye. Leave him alone! Besides, he only plays one half of the field...;)

Not hearing about players is a GOOD thing...it might mean that things are looking good for the defense. He will be there when it counts...

I believe I posted that he "will be considered a steal, a total steal" not that he already is. Not sure if you anti-steal posters were being sarcastic or not.

I think a case can be made for taking in the 4th round a guy touted as a sure thing 1st round talent with injury concerns who ends up starting for your defense at the end of his first season a bit of a steal already (remember many teams thought he'd be PUP at least or even redshirt a whole year). Add to that he's agile at like 6 foot 6 and getting bigger and stronger and that he's a sure starter this year

Compare that to this years 4th round pick who is on bubble to make roster and at most will return punts.

Compared to this year, last years pick was a steal.

Of course I agree on consistency, but some of the expectations and nitpickiness that fly around these boards still blows me away sometimes.

Give a few people some cute smilies and they become super critics with
smart *** comments. Oh well, I admit to being defensive about my posts, I just like to see people back up there comments with a bit more than a laughing smiley (or the nail on the head one for that matter, even though that's semi-positive).

bbgun I'm not trying to single you out since I'm not sure what your laughing smiley really intends to say, but it's a general comment. Thanks to the poster that went back and searched old threads to bring out reports on Canty.

Some people on this board hate when any positive news comes out about the Boys .... and they try to deflate any optimism.

just ignore the trolls.
