Being that both big Dave, Zack ( I believe ) and Tank's contracts expire soon how can we obtain their services with cap issues looming?

Martins 5th year will be more than his initial cap hit for an extension. Irving is going to get a tender(probably a 1st Rd tender) which controls him for 2018 and isn’t all that much. Lawerence if extended will see a raise in his cap hit, but not a huge number initially. The expensive scenario is no extension for Martin and franchise tagging Lawrence. That will be a serious cap burden, but one I don’t see happening.

many are worried about a long term deal for dlaw.
i guess it depends on the details.
i would prefer to give irving a long term now because he is incentivized to get the security while restricted to guard against injury.

Yes these looming contracts are a concern.
My question why wouldn't a team offer Irving big bucks and his worth a first round tender.
Then franchise tag on Lawrence will be near 20M
Zack 17M
Cooper,Hitchens
I know its spread though signin bonus

you are right and they could.
we should lock him up earlier this year, but it may be too late.
martin's 1st year cap hit should be much smaller.

I am betting the boys franchise DLaw to make him prove he is not a one year wonder and show he can stay healthy two years in a row
Martin is a done deal just how expensive it will be is another matter; ironically the O lines early struggles will help keep his price down some
Irving- that one is hard to figure. We will tender him for certain; once again looking to make sure he is not a one year wonder either.
Cooper if we keep him will not be that expensive with only one good year
Hitchens is not a pro bowl guy so also not that expensive

Make no mistake, any extension will have some very large hits eventually. It’s just initially they won’t feel that sting because of how they structure their contracts.

we just happen to be about 20-30M under the cap.
more will become freed in 2019.
yes at some point because year 1 is usually the cheapest year in a multiyear dead - by far.
you can generally stretch it easily a couple years and then restructure etc.
a full cap analysis would be needed.
but the cap in flux a great deal now with the class of 2016 looking less stellar than it did last year.

DAL is already 20m under the cap next year and will roll over 10m= 30m before restructures and cuts
Effectively they are 50m+ under the cap

David Irving is RFA.... he will get 4m+ next year
Hitchens is a super JAG .....he will get 4/16m
ZMartin is already signed for 2018 at 9.3m..... any extension will lower that cap number
DLawrence should get extended at 4/50m but it might have to be 5/75m if we wait

Dez, Witten, Lee, TCrawford and Scandrick may have their deals re-done or get cut

Especially a team with a low first rounder

Do you guys think Dez, Witt, Lee and TCrawford would restructure? I lost faith in Orlando and hope he does walk. Lee is also pretty injury prone but when healthy he gets the job done.

Do you mean renegotiate? Restructuring is primarily just an accounting mechanism to move money around from one year to multiple years to hopefully gain a more favorable position with cap flexibility.

Don't see Witten continues. Lee would stay at for another, Dez should be restructured -- if Jerry has the guts, and if he does, Dez will create more drama for sure.

Restructure is not a pay cut.

Renegotiate is a pay cut.

A restructure is always beneficial to the player.

It is unlikely that they will need to restructure any of them.

Scandrick could get cut but his salary will only be 3M which is very low a veteran CB if he has any ability. If he gets cut it won't be for cap reasons.

They are unlikely to ask any of the 4 you listed to take a pay cut. It the team is concerned about their salaries, they would likely just cut them.

There is no possible way Dez could take a pay cut and still function. His contract is a status symbol for him. When he signed the deal he didn't care about the specific amount per se, only that he was the top paid WR for status purposes. He can't comprehend the relative difference in 700K and 7OM other than one is bigger.

You mean Dez should take a pay cut. A restructure is not a pay cut in the common usage of the word relative to NFL contracts.

Stop proclaiming yourself a "capologist." You seem clueless in that regard.

Lawrence is the poster boy for a franchise tag. That's about 18 mill.

Irving's tender is about 4 mill
