Cap Space Update

I'm guessing you think the Cowboys are in bad shape with the salary cap. The truth is right now they are middle of the league and with a couple of moves they could be in very good shape.

They are also paying the big salaries to young players that are more likely to perform than the Daniel Snyder specials where an older player gets his big payday and then drops off the map half the time.

I would need an example of what you are talking about because I've never seen it.

I’ve never seen it. Either way, it’s a moot point, because the type of restructure he is referencing, isn’t the type of restructuring that we are discussing that the cowboys can do to create cap space. So either way, it has nothing to do with the amount of cap space the cowboys have available to them this year, if they choose to use it.

I can't picture what he is talking about. In baseball they don't even discuss something like that because the players union would step in to stop it.

What he is suggesting makes zero sense anywhere.

Imagine that even in a regular job. Hey your salary may be 80,000 per year. How about I pay you 40,000 this year and 40,000 two years from now? Ok? Good.

The closest thing to what he's saying is an extension, since the additional years get added to the current deal and the whole cap structure can be altered. But even that's not exactly what he's saying. I think he may be confusing and mixing extensions and restructures, and that's me giving him the benefit of the doubt.

It doesn't take a Rocket Surgeon to figure this stuff out.

mahomes can sign an extension. He has been in the league 3 years. Though I read reports where he feels better off waiting. As the cap is going to keep increasing.

You are right, I misread an article I read this morning.

Look at currently the Top 10 salaries of the Dallas Cowboys by position and by overall cap hit % of the team salary:

QB (Prescott) 14.47% or $31.5M
RB (Elliott) 5.01% or $10.9M
WR (Cooper) 5.51% or $12M
OL (Martin, Smith, Frederick, Collins) 20.88% or $45.47M
DE (Lawrence) 10.06% or $21.9M
DT (Crawford) 4.18% or $9.1M
ILB (Smith) 3.57% or $7.771M

So, as of today Dallas has committed 63.68% of the team salary for 10 players (7 on offense; 3 on defense) for a total of $138.641M. That right there is part of the reason they are where they are in terms of salary cap and player personnel.
nice post.

Makes me even more furious at QB salaries. Cant believe Dak is going to make more $$ than Brees, Brady, Wilson and Rogers. He is just not worth it to me. And is not in that category of QB's.
