Captain patch on jerseys: Gold stars?

HI,

After watching NFL games and highlights all weekend long. I have notice that team captains wear the big 'C' patch on their jerseys.

However, it seems that all have 4 stars under the C. Some players have a single Gold star and some have multiple Gold stars?

Is this a camera angle deception and bad lighting or do the players get another gold star every year they are a captain.

It's a gold star for every year. On the last star the C is also gold. Why they didn't give Romo and Witten full gold stars for past years, I don't know.

Team captains have been around for years.

I guess the effective date is when they started the 'C' patch?

So so is it like the presidency, you cant be a captain for more then 4 years.

or do the Gold stars change to platnium to start over?
