Is it possible to custom fit 6x9's into the rear doors of a Ford Explorer that takes 5x7's?

Its possible. You will need to cut the door a bit.

1. Take off molded door panel

2. Cut the actual door speaker opening to offset for the 6x9 speaker/magnet. You might have to adjust more if the speaker you are installing has a cage+magnet on the backside.You shouldnt need to cut much. I did this w/ my old S10 back in high school. Its the same approach.

3. Once you are happy that the speaker will fit in the actual door w/ your slight modifications then you need to adjust for the speaker to fit down into your molded door panel.


The door is deep enough to compensate for the 6x9 so there shouldnt be any depth issue. You just need to offset for the the width of the magnet/speaker.
