Cardinals call about Roethlisberger
by Sports 620 KTAR (April 22nd, 2010 @ 7:38am)
PHOENIX - ESPN NFL Insider John Clayton joined Sports 620 KTAR's Doug & Wolf Thursday, from the NFL Draft in New York City. Clayton broke some news about the Cardinals and a certain quarterback with ties to Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt.
While talking to Doug & Wolf, Clayton talked about the possibility of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger being traded to the Valley.
"The Cardinals did check in. They called and made communication, " he said about the Cardinals front office getting in touch with the Steelers. How far the talks went is up in the air according to Clayton. "They did not make a real offer that is going to get anything done and I don't even know if it got to the offer stage".
The Cardinals coaching staff has plenty of experience with the two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback. Whisenhunt was a coach in Pittsburgh with the Steelers when they drafted the QB 10th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft. Clayton believes this history with Roethlisberger is the reason that the Cardinals at least put out the inquiry to possibly acquire the troubled QB.
Roethlisberger has been suspended by the NFL for six games this season for violating the player conduct policy. He was accused of sexual misconduct for the second time in a year. However, no charges were filed in either incident with Roethlisberger.
The Steelers are reportedly looking for a top 10 pick in the first round of the NFL Draft for the Pro Bowl Quarterback. The Cardinals hold the 26th pick of the draft; that kicks off at 4:30 p.m Thursday.
