What a bust Leinart is

Cant believe all the people who said "who cares he cant throw more than 40 yards, hes a winner"

Turns out its easy to win at USC.

Are there any good young QB's? Smith, Leinart, Cambell, JP Losman, Croyle, Russell, Kolb,l any one on the Bears....

There might be some rule changes in a few years to help out QB's

It looks like Matt Leinart may have blown his chance at the starting job. Kurt Warner is expected to be named the team's starter, according to a report by ESPN.com
Leinart has struggled this preseason and further hurt his cause to hold down the No. 1 spot by throwing three interceptions Saturday against the Raiders. He finished the game with a passer rating of 2.8.
Warner, 37, started 11 games for the Cardinals last season, stepping in after Leinart suffered a season-ending collarbone injury. Warner threw for 3,417 yards and 27 touchdowns last season.
Leinart was the tenth overall pick in the 2006 draft.

Not surprising when Leinart throws 3 picks and 4 completions the other day

Im surprised and happy to see Cards and Niners go w/ the more deserving player over the top pick

Cutler was in that same draft and he is the real deal. I think Russell will be a very good QB as well.

I never got what anyone saw in Leinart. Average arm, average to below-average athlete, below average work ethic, and Hollywood before he'd ever done a thing.

REPORT: LEINART LOSING HIS GIG
Posted by Mike Florio on August 24, 2008, 12:35 p.m.
As it turns out, four completions and three interceptions in the team’s third preseason game are enough to get the Cardinals to make a change at the top of the quarterback depth chart.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Cards are expected to name Kurt Warner the starting quarterback for the start of the 2008 regular season.

An unnamed source told Mort that “Leinart’s training-camp performance has been uneven, and the Cardinals are concerned about his arm strength and consistency.”

Leinart was the tenth overall pick in the 2006 draft, selected seven spots after Vince Young of the Titans and one spot before Jay Cutler of the Broncos. Currently, Cutler looks to be the best of the trio.

The move, if it happens and if it sticks, also means that the Cardinals likely will be looking for another quarterback of the future, as soon as the 2009 draft. The fundamental problem is that Leinart was picked by the Denny Green regime, and Whisenhunt has decided in one year and some change that Leinart isn’t the guy. Whisenhunt isn’t likely to change his mind, unless Warner gets hurt or benched and Leinart lights it up.

For now, it’s late-career rebirth for the 37-year-old Warner, who started eleven games in 2007 after Leinart suffered a broken collarbone. In his three seasons with the Cardinals, he has started 26 games.

Warner was the league’s MVP in 1999 and 2001, but injuries and a spotty relationship with Rams coach Mike Martz ended Warner’s career there.

Before Leinart’s injury, he was the starter and Warner came off the bench when the offense was struggling, to the chagrin of Leinart.

It’ll be interesting to see how Leinart reacts to this development. Though Alex Smith, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft, seems to be taking his benching in stride, Leinart might start clamoring for a trade.

Warner is in the final year of his contract with the Cardinals, at a base salary of $4 million.

HORRIBLE NIGHT FOR LEINART

Posted by Mike Florio on August 24, 2008, 7:16 a.m.

Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart is entering his third NFL season. If the light is ever going to go on, it should at least start flickering now.

But in Saturday night’s preseason game against the Raiders, Leinart had nearly as many interceptions as completions.

Leinart connected on four of 12 throws, with three balls being caught by the other team. But the poor performance apparently wasn’t bad enough to get him benched.

“I know Matt’s down because he didn’t play as well as he would have liked,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “This competition, being pushed by Kurt, has made Matt tougher. It’s one of the things you have to be as a quarterback.”

If by “tougher” Whisenhunt means “not a better quarterback,” then we agree.

The Cardinals beat the Raiders 24-0, but led by only three points at the end of the first half.

I think lienart has the tools physically, but he isn't mature enough to command a leadership role.

I think Warner being there has held him back, seeing the way those two guys interact you can tell leinart lets warner take the reigns. That isn't a good dynamic to have if you want the kid to ever be a leader. Best thing they could do is cut warner and name leinart the starter. Warner isn't the future.

Good young quarterbacks... I'm still on the Colt Brennan bandwagon. Dude looks like a playmaker to me.

Shame he went to the Redholes

I liked Cutler more than the other guys in that draft. He is going to be a good one for a long time I think.

Leinart had a 2.8 passer rating last night against OAKLAND. 4-12, 3 INT's. He's finished.

I'm not shocked, in the least, that they've reversed field and went with Warner again after Matt threw 3 INT's the other night.

I think QB need to sit b4 they get a chance to start a lot of the QB's you named were thrown into the fire early. You can add David Carr to your list also.

I agree, Cutler coud be good. Hes got one of the best arms in the league.

I also like Trent Edwards

Someone needs to photoshop Kurts wife in the hot tub, or Eli. Or anyone, that pic is photoshop gold, someone get on that.

I think the ideal scenario is to sit most of the year and get a taste at the end of the year. But sometimes it doesnt matter how you handle it, David Carr would of been a bust regardless.

Smith has to be the bigger bust than Leinart. How does a 1st-round pick who's in his 4th year not beat out O'Sullivan, a guy who has been on 8 teams in 6 years and has never started a NFL game, for the starting job?
