Cardinals release Edgerrin James, Rod Hood, and Travis LaBoy

The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals on Tuesday cut three major parts of their NFC title team.

In addition to the expected release of running back Edgerrin James, the team let go cornerback Rod Hood and defensive end/linebacker Travis LaBoy.

"It's never easy to release veteran players who have contributed to the team's success and these three individuals certainly fall into that category," head coach Ken Whisenhunt said in a team statement. "But like every decision we make, it simply comes down to what is in the best interest of our football team and what gives us the best chance for success. We're grateful to all three of them for their contributions and wish them nothing but the best in the future."

they let laboy and hood go?

Was it a money move?

they both seem like very useful players.

Do teams usually dump players like this right after the draft?

Seems like there are more releases happening than I remember in years past.

Not usually players of the magnitude this year.

He left the Colts to join the Cardinals. Indianapolis goes on to win the Super Bowl. His new team reaches the Super Bowl, but falls short of winning the Super Bowl. I wonder if Edgerrin James feels jinxed in some way.

He left for the money because he has a lot of family members with their hands out.

Wow. Hood and Laboy are pretty solid players. I really don't see much room for them on this roster though. Too bad.

If they let them go, there is a reason. Dallas made LaBoy look like an All-Pro.

Wasn't Hood the player who covered Owens last year?

They want to win.

Laboy abused our tackles in that game at arizona. He was flying off the ball and was getting constant pressure on Romo. He'll be a great pickup for another team. The kid gives maximum effort at all times.

Okay, we are pretty deep at the OLB spot but I'm not sure about the quality of that depth since most of them were just drafted. LaBoy might be a good move to get some solid depth.

And at CB we have NO depth...Ball is not what I'd call quality depth. We picked up a couple of guys in the draft but one is a ST player and nothing more while the other is Raw. We could use a decent CB with some experience like Hood. Even if he was only going to be the #4 because you never know when he might have to step into #3 or #2.

I could see a place for both of these guys on our roster.

I would take Hood over Ball any day of the week and twice on game days.

Until camp proves who should stay and who should go, I don't see anything wrong with bringing him in for a looksee.

Most likely they are saving to resign Wilson and Dansby who are both still unsigned... I believe.

If they think Mickens can play this year then don't get Hood but if he is going to be on IR this year then sign Mr. Hood to a one yr deal. It's that simple.
