I don't know anything about him as I have not watched any Pac-12 games in a few years. I was just reading a few reports from the senior bowl and he has seemed to have left a very good impression on some people. Reports out of the senior bowl was he has been almost unblockable in the "pit drills".

Remember last year going into the senior bowl there was some with Zack Martin's measurables (lack of size and less-than-ideal arm length (32.25 inches) will be issues for some teams, Mike Mayock said). He impressed everyone in the "pit drills".

At 6'-5" and 321 lbs. Davis sure fits the bill, but the knock on him is he has been inconsistent. I do think that Marinelli can coach him up.

As of now he is not listed on many, if any mock boards in the first round. Actually Kirwan just added him to his latest mock since the senior bowl at #30 to Seattle.

He is a player that we might start hearing associated with the Cowboys pick over the next few months.

Very talented and looks like one of the most impressive physical specimens. Unfortunately no one knows if he will try to put in the effort in the pros. Huge gamble if he were there in the second round I would take the risk.

Iowa is a Big 10 team...as a fellow North East guy you should know this (joking)

I like Davis, but I think he falls somewhere in between our 1st and 2nd round picks. He's not quite worthy of 27 because of a lack of consistency and effort, but most likely won't be there in the 2nd because guys with his size and movement ability usually don't last that long. It was convenient for him to show up and play hard at the Senior Bowl because $ is on the line, but he didn't play that way week in and week out for Iowa.

He and Preston Smith are my 2 must gets at the DT position to go along with a FA DE like Hardy or JPP. I would trade back to the early 2nd and try to snag both if his stock hasn't risen to our pick by then.

Yeah he will never here about Carl Davis playing in the Pac 10 because Iowa has not become a member yet. LOL I agree with you about Davis. i like him but no at 27 and I did read where he did not go 100% and took some plays off.

He is very talented but attitude and work have been questioned.

The one piece of info that fans don't get is the psyc evals. It's really difficult to know about a lot of these guys.

A guy like Martin was so good immediately in large part because of his mental makeup. He is not a freak athlete and there have been many guys with similar or bestter physical talent, but it's the mental side that makes a great player.

Look at Sean Lee and Bruce Carter. Carter probably looks better in many practice drills because he is a super athlete but his mental makeup has held him back from greatness.

The other issue is that Marinelli has not had a lot of 320 plus guys on his teams. They will only draft a 3 or 3/1 combo type DT in the first. I don't know if Davis is that or not.

Exactly. I don't think Davis will be on the Cowboys radar. Definitely not in the first, IMO. His questionable work ethic might be enough to take him off Dallas' board, and even it it isn't, Davis is not the type of DT Marinelli will want with a first. He can find guys that are good against the run outside the first.

Davis is in my top 5 for realistic targets in RD1. Love the player. He'll be a BPA candidate at 27.

If Marinelli can't see a significant difference between Davis and Gabe Wright or Joey Mbu, don't let him in the war room. Just take a top 1t early and stop overthinking it (like we did for years with OL). It's a gaping hole in this D.
