The guys only 29; sign him, IR him, and get the damn toe healed. Put him on the OL and we're steam rolling people.

MRSA infection did him in. A tragedy. I really loved his game. His career was cut shirt like LeCharles Bentley's.

:(

Yeah. You'd have to work out some back room deal with him. Not sure we need him even if he can come back from this. I like the OL although its still a work in progress.

It would be quite a nice dream to picture a healthy Nicks on our offensive line.

A line consisting of Smith-Nicks-Fredrick-Martin-Free would be one for the ages!

But all signs point to his career being over.

I suppose if he wanted to play here and could pass a physical next year then we could look at him. I don't know his situation but assumed he can't play on the injury right now. They do a great job of watching the wire here.

Knew you don't pay OGs $10M AAV in free agency, anyway.

Looks like the Mack/Livings route wasn't such a disaster, after all. Amirite?

coming from one of those that claimed costa would be fine you have no cred on interior O line at all.

Before he was extended by the Cowboys? Or signed with the Colts? Nice attempt to deflect, but you ought to pick a topic the other guy was wrong about when you try to change the subject to avoid admitting you were wrong in the first place. But I'll give you another chance. Better 2012 contract: Carl Nicks or Mackenzie Bernardeau?

It apparently wasn't the MRSA, but rather the chronic toe/tendon problem that shortened his career. Not something he's coming back from.

This comment below the story is ominous:

The buzz in Tampa today is he will always have foot/toe/nerve damage, and while’s technically a free agent, his football career is likely over. MRSA treatment is worse than chemo in many ways, but necessary to get rid of the bacteria that is MRSA. Wishing Carl best of luck in hopes he can return. He had only half a healthy season with the Bucs, but really made a difference in the O line.

....feel bad for the guy. My Mother in Law has MRSA and it's NO joke....she hasn't been right since. My strong opinion is he'll retire and probably shortly.

Is the MRSA having any effect on the toe/tendon problem? Someone brought up LeCharles Bentley's situation. He injured his knee and then ended up with a staph infection that ate at his injured tendon. Is Nicks enduring a similar fate?

and the cowboys until just recently did so well with interior O line choices.

Lets see: Costa
Livings
Nagy
Brewster
Arkin.
Martin

Where are they now?

Yeah you blathered about how Costa was going to be good. I guess some of the boys staff drank the koolaid as well. Not like they had any cred about figuring out interior O line until the last couple have they? So your BS about extending Costa just means they doubled down on stupid. I guess the colts must have sniffed some glue as well. Stupidity- as you have shown- can get around pretty good.

I'm mostly going off what bummed Bucs fans collectively said on another board--that it was a chronic tendon problem on his toe that he couldn't play through anymore. They said he'd recovered from the MRSA, but no word on whether the two were possibly related somehow.

Exactly what I expected. Deflection.

You're misstating my Costa arguments, too, of course.

Yep.

Burms should at least show a post where you (or I or jobber for that matter) said, "We expect Costa to be a good NFL center."

I know I never posted that.

Nor do I remember you ever posting that.

I'm surprised that in his example he didn't reach back to Robert Shaw and Phil Pozderac as offensive line players the Cowboys missed out on.
