Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr knows his responsibilities are about to change under new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. He, Morris Claiborne and the corners should be much more active in the run game.

"They already told us to pretty much get ready for 16 weeks of being as physical as you can be," Carr told The Dallas Morning News' Jon Machota. "Not only disrupting the timing of receivers but also when our number is called to come up and stop the run and come up and tackle."

"That's what corners were doing in the playoffs. That's what secondaries are doing, stopping those big runs and at the same time still covering. So it's going to take all 11 guys this year to get the job done and we finally see that now."

Yeah. This stuff is fluff, but it's sure fun to read.

Claiborne's going to be adding some weight this offseason.

I think it is interesting that he says, "it's going to take all 11 guys this year to get the job done and we finally see that now."

I wonder what exactly he means by that?

The secondary was concerned about WR's and TE's

While the front 7 focused mainly on the QB and RB.....

They were not on the same page. Probably a philosophy thing with Rob

"You guys play the pass first...and let the front 7 worry about the run game"

Just a guess

Yup, Carr is one of my favorite players on the team as well. Dez, Carr, Lee, Murray. Lee and Murray will fall off my list if they get hurt again this year though.

If Kiffin and Marinelli can get these guys playing aggressive and swarming to the ball with less communication break downs the defense should be better.

The defense is not devoid of talent but guys need to know their assignments and need to play with more instinct and less thinking. Things happen way to fast in the NFL .

While I am not saying that we won't be more aggressive, do we not hear this with *every* change in the defensive coaching staff?

It's like politicians saying they are going to fix the economy or make education a priority...

Sounds like the kind of stuff we've heard before. When Rob showed up, we were going to see an unprecedented level of aggression and playmaking. I've sure Carr was asked specifically about this, but sometimes I wish they'd just let their play do the talking.

In ways it is, I see too many times guys standing around expecting that the 1st guy will make the tackle. I want to see 1 then 2 then 3 guys swarming and someone trying to pull the ball away from the offensive player.

Guys in Chicago do not stand around like some fan with a field seat they attack and they strip at the ball and they get turnovers. Turnovers do not happen by themselves as a defense you force turnovers

I don't mind hearing Carr make the comment or any player make these comments but I do agree it means little if you don't go out and do it.

I want guys excited and guys buying into it, fans can take a wait and see players I would rather see motivated and the staff getting them pumped up and then of course go out and do it.

No doubt players said much of the same thing with Rob here but then after seeing 3 man rushes as often as we did hard to sell the aggressiveness even to players

I guess it involves a change in mindset, but last year early on the defense was definitely swarming to the ball. I think having so many backups really killed everyone's confidence.

Getting to that point shouldn't be too difficult.

I agree I do think the injury hurt what was looking like it had promise. I do think the defense was never as aggressive from a scheme stand point as many of us felt it was going to be. Clearly nothing like Daddy's 48. :laugh2:

I hate Buddy as much as the next guy but the man was a master of defense.

Seriously....

You would think the way some carry on, they were being forced by gun point to read.

Don't like it, don't read, much less comment about it and bang your head, as if he's making you suffer.

It's the equivalent to watching tv, your eyes start to hurt, so now you get all riled up and start fussing at the TV. No, just don't watch.

My bad. I thought this was a forum where you made comments for and against whatever is posted related to the Cowboys.

My point was that I wish the boys' would just shut up for once and prove it on the field. It seems whatever they say they perform the opposite. Sorry if I don't fall hook line and sinker to the rah rah speeches. I want to see it...for once...

Seriously? I want more than just more talk and I get bagged for it? :laugh2: :laugh2:
